University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

@ChicagoSportsFn

I submitted my scores from the August 2018 test date/ November 2017 but I didn’t realize I had to submit them until October 18 when I reread the site.

@dustybender99

Cross your fingers they get in by November 1. You can also email someone in admissions and they may say they will accept requirements a few days after the November 1 deadline.

I know the UNC-Chapel Hill website says October 15 is the deadline for EA but will accept supplemental app requirements for another couple weeks after. Maybe Michigan is the same way.

@wmc656

I’m not sure what you mean by “qualifies for early action.”

Anyone can apply EA. You just have to submit all the requirements by November 1 and check the Early Action box (vice the Regular Decision box) in the Common App.

Does anyone know how long it takes for UMich to receive SAT scores?

@ballerinababy84 I sent mine on 9/11/18 and they were received on 10/16/18

@wmc656 uh oh, if I send mine today, do you think they will be in on time for November 1st?

I’m a parent from last year’s admissions cycle. From my memory, receipt by the college takes 7-10 business days, unless you choose “rush” reporting, which takes 4-5 business days.

If you want your scores to be received by 11/1 and you haven’t sent them yet, then I’d highly recommend “rush” reporting. The downside is that there’s an additional cost.

Why does it take so long? It really shouldn’t take weeks for SAT scores to arrive electronically. In today’s day and age, they should receive it in a day or two.

Part of the issue is colleges can choose to receive scores in different ways, options include every week or every two weeks, among others, so I would check with the schools in question to see what they recommend at this late date.

Also, make sure to check to see if the colleges you are applying to accept self-reported SAT scores, that way they receive them with your application, and you save the cash outlay required to officially send the scores. Good luck

My guidance counselor told me that it is time stamped from when I sent it, so if I technically sent it before the deadline and college board didn’t send it until after the deadline, it wouldn’t be my fault. I am just so confused because I keep getting contrasting answers.

Hi: I sent SAT scores to Michigan “regular” delivery last Saturday morning and by Tuesday (10/23) evening they were received (according to College Board) —— I was warned by college counselor that Michigan will defer you to regular decision if you’re scores aren’t there 11/1…

@havingfunismy thank you so much! Someone else on this thread said it took a month for michigan to receive them. I don’t know if I want to risk not doing rush delivery.

I got an email from Michigan today saying my application has been received/is complete (I sent it in about a week ago), but I haven’t gotten a login to a portal or anything. Is that normal? When do they send out login info?

I got the links to create a login to view my application status 1 or 2 days after the initial confirmation email. Good luck!

Oof, the waiting is definitely the worst part. Michigan State already got back to me, at least, but honestly, I think it made me more antsy to hear back from Michigan.
Michigan kind of edged State out of the place of my top pick, which make it even worse, honestly. Not that I’d be complaining with State, but, you know, tuition. Michigan’s a great school that would like, actually help me out with tuition? State is also great, but… yeah, I’m broke.
December 20th was last year, huh? I know I shouldn’t hold my breath, but I’m hoping they release it earlier. ;w;

FYI. 12/20/17 was a Wednesday. This year that same Wednesday is 12/19/18. So, hopefully, you’ll get your decisions on 12/19.

If it helps, the notification via email came at 10:43 PST 12/20/17. :smiley:

And be sure to check THE PORTAL, not your email for up-to-the-minute info. My portal was updated 8 hours before I received an email.

@butterfly999 you have to create a Friend account to use WolverineAccess during the application process. Go to wolverineaccess.umich.edu > Students > New & Prospective Student Business

Just so everyone knows, U of M will not tell you what date and time they plan on releasing EA. Last year was 12/20 at 3 CT, so 4 ET since Michigan is Eastern. We anxious students deduced it would be 3 CT that Weds. based on previous info on College Confidential, so I would expect something very very similar again this year. For those asking for merit aid for OOS students, I wish you the best of luck, but U of M directly gives very little in that department. However, it’s still a possibility!

I’m also applying from CA as a history major, this school is a big stretch for me though and I don’t expect to get in
GPA (w): 3.75
SAT: 1490
6 AP exams, all with 5s except I got a 3 on my AP Computer science.
Lots of sports, but not much else.
I think I wrote good essays though, I want to go into government or law.

Like I said…this is my reach school…I figure my GPA is too low to get in.
