deferred with a 32 act, 3.98 weighted gpa (3.89 uw), president of two clubs, and volunteering it was my top school and Iām in state :(((( really hoping to get some good news from them soon
My sister still hasnāt heard any word from Michigan since her deferral. But she was admitted yesterday to USC with a scholarship interview invite so sounds promising for her even if Michigan doesnāt work out.
Some people have told her that Michigan regularly defers high stats kids because they think they are using Michigan as a safety and wonāt matriculate. They donāt want to negatively impact their yield. But I can tell you if she was admitted EA she would have put down her deposit immediately. Now even if Michigan admits her she probably wonāt attend.
Michigan does not regularly defers high stats kids. There are simply too many applicants with high stats and 85% of EA applicants are deferred. Nevertheless, if one does show not very interested in UMich and the adcom sense it that way, a deferral is likely. Again, there is no āover-qualifiedā applicants as >25% of admitted students have ACT 34+ or equivalent.
@seanalex1 Accepted at USC (University of Southern California) this early? Thatās fantastic. I thought they did all admits in March since they only have regular decision.
@seanalex1 did your sister hear back from USC by email or logging into her portal? congrats to her!
hoping to hear back from Michigan soon
USC sent out a package priority mail, itās not on the portal yet. They do admit in March but if you applied by the Dec. 1 deadline for merit scholarships you were notified of your admittance and scholarship now because some scholarships require you to fly out to USC and interview.
Did you guys hear anything yet from University of Michigan? Any guesses on when the first decisions will come out??
I just got my counselor to (FINALLY) upload my mid year report to CommonApp after asking her for 3 weeks!
Nothing yet. I hear that they might start releasing decisions this week, but itāll most likely start next month.
Iām tired of just waiting for an inevitable deny. I want to do something about it, but they said that they just want my Semester 1 gradesā¦
@RugbyDude6 @whizkid98 @WallTitan117 This week or next is the first week of decisions.
Last year most of them came out late February
I wonder how they notify us
Donāt expect any decisions until Friday, February 5. If it works like previous years, the View Decision tab in Wolverine Access will be updated sometime late Thursday night or early Friday morning. Then theyāll send the congratulatory emails to admitted students during the day Friday. Iād be surprised if they send any denies this round or defer any RD applicants.
@danloeb exactly! Itās usually the first week of February and there arenāt ever many rejections that early. My regional counselor said MAYBE this week as well.
Well, if they do come out tomorrow, good luck everyone!
@whizkid98 you too! You deserve it. One of my friends got in early admission to Yale yesterday and Iām super super proud of her. Ready to find out myself! Lol
My counselor sent my transcript today. Hopefully I hear something soon. I hate this waiting.
Okay, come on Michigan. My sister is in at Yale too.
I hope I will hear some good news today!
Live chat representatives have said none are going out today or have gone out today - I was told itās more likely theyāll be out next week but they ādonāt know for sureā
