University of Michigan Deferral Thread EA 2020

@ug1975 & @Addie1234, congratulations on getting in! @ProudDad26, I was kind of surprised that they announced some admits over this last weekend- thought that the earliest would be March 18th but most likeliest April 1st. I think the latter will be the major wave, so there’s still hope! Your child’s stats were similar to my kid’s though in LSA as opposed to Kinesiology. Your child’s work with physical therapists stands out in my opinion- I think that relevant ECs go a long way. Our kid worked a short medical internship over the summer and I think this may have helped with the acceptance. Again, good luck! There’s still a lot of time left-

do they going to release decisions this friday

Anyone hear from LSA Honors if you applied by 2/24?

@ug1975 can you share your stats and major pls…thanks in advance

Has anyone heard back from honors? Or if anyone already got in during the last wave, how were you notified and did you get your decision on the exact date of the deadline (or earlier)?

@ProudDad26 I was at Campus Day with my son last Friday for Kinesiology and they did say this year was the most competitive it has ever been. Your daughter’s scores are similar to my son’s so hopefully she gets in. I was very impressed with the entire Kinesiology staff.

@GoBlue2020 , they say the same spiel to every kid every year. “This year was the most competitive”. That doesn’t really mean anything, and certainly shouldn’t deter anyone waiting on their response.

It is not meant to deter anyone but yes it does mean something. Each year the number of applicants goes up far more than Michigan expands the freshman class. We were told there were over 31,000 early action applicants and 3,000 were accepted and the entire class will only be between 6,000-6,500 students from likely over 50,000 applicants. Those numbers do get more competitive every year.

I am one of still deferred students, does anyone know when the decision is going to be? tonight? A lot of people are talking about honors admission, while I am not even in.

@mywifeisUM I don’t think any decisions (besides honors) will be released tonight. Last year, there weren’t any released on Friday, March 20 and the last wave was on Friday, March 27. So this year’s final release will be on Friday, March 25, and none tonight.

Will changing from engineering to LSA effect my chances of being accepted?

@bballstar2452 I dont think you can change after you’ve submitted an application

Well, I did

has anyone checked WA yet? possible release for tonight? I’m too scared lol

nothing for me yet…

@GoBlue2020 Thanks for the message. Happy for your son. Yes, does sound like it has been a very competitive year. I guess she will find out next week when final notifications are delivered. It’s been a discouraging process, especially when she was hoping for a positive response back in December. Just hope the final news will be positive. Looking slimmer however : (

@ProudDad26 I hope it works out. My son has a couple classmates that are waiting as well. Speaking to some fellow students at Campus Day I was surprised how many were still undecided and considering other schools. My son did not apply to any other colleges and committed when accepted in December. Hopefully if some of these undecideds go elsewhere it frees up room for those anxious to come:)

I’m sure a lot are undecided because they don’t know whether it will be affordable yet. At least, that’s my daughters situation. Still waiting for merit info from the school of music, theatre & dance.

i sent in a letter of continued interest a while back to my regional counselor and didn’t even get a response…starting to feel like i’m going to have to cross off michigan from my list soon even though none of the people who got into michigan from my school are actually going…

@jpa0115 i feel you so hard. so many kids from my school applied to umich without much intent to go and got in while i’m sitting here deferred, with much more interest (top choice) and same if not more qualified. it’s kind of upsetting but at the same time i realize that they just didn’t see anything in me.
