DEFERRED EA
Persian Male
34 ACT
3.7 UW GPA
Ok essays/extracurriculars
At the engineering orientation they stated the incoming grade point of 3.91 and 3.84 for LSA for this year. But they also stated that most students drop their grade point to 3.3 after the first semester through graduation.
for the deferred students, do we have to check our wolverine access just in case we are accepted regular decision or do we get an email if our application status is updated?
@enviroeng2022 Can you post the link to last year’s discussion. It is possible they admitted deferred applications before mid Feb. But it is hard to see how they could reject
My midyear grades are looking good with 6 As and one B, this a continued improvement trend, last year I had 6As and 1B, I did worse my sophomore and freshman year. Since I got the grades letter, does this mean my shot increases? My essays imo were really good btw.
@haost23 Thank You for your advice! Hopefully everything works out alright!
Also should I be worried if I did not receive a decision letter in my email (I checked the portal for my desicion)? I had the same problem with recieving emails from U of M when I submitted my application and waited for my ID. I eventually had to contact the admissions office to get my ID. I fear that there may be a discrepancy in their communication with me. Can anyone help?
How much do 7th semester grades help your chances of admittance? I have all As and 4 AP classes this year but only got a 1390 on my SAT for LSA
Will a college visit help at this point in the application process to show demonstrated interest? I was deferred too.
@MoTownBlues I don’t think so lol
How does the transfer process work? Also is there a certain time I should submit a LOCI or is it the sooner the better?
So I got a reply to my LOCI, she ended the letter by saying to keep Michigan as an option but also explore other opportunities available, is this bad?
@4101297 Definitely need to keep options open. You need to have a backup plan. Better to assume the worst. In general, odds for acceptance from EA defer been poor, sorry to say. My D was in the same shoe with defer by UM two yrs ago (yup, high stats and all the works). We hope, We pray, We wait. But at the end, she was placed on the waitlist and that meant the end of the road practically. Luckily she put her xmas vacay to work and put in five additional applications. She got into two of those, including CMU, it is where she is now, happily in a highly ranked engineering program. She thought UM was her one and only (mom went to law school, older sister just graduated from neurosciences, and she wanted to follow the footsteps…)… that was a mistake in hindsight, and a blessing that UM told her - wait a minute, hold your horses, and take a deep breath and look what else is available out there.
I just called my regional admissions director and had a really good talk(left a great impression) and she said she got my email and that I should follow up with the University in the coming month or two
is this just illusory thinking?
She also said that 7th semester grades are very important in showing consistency with the applicant and is the only additional piece of information that they will review with the deferral
Who did you speak with? Your Regional admissions officer? Good for you!
@EthanAz1 How did you find out who your Regional Admissions Director is
MO Town Blues… https://admissions.umich.edu/contact-us
Everything you need is on the university of michigan website. Go to high school and look up your region. You can also call the school and they can give you the information.
Since there has been some talk here about sending LOCI - during a live chat with the admissions office, they stated that they DON’T recommend sending LOCI, or anything else, other than your most recent grades. They said that anything other than grades will slow down the admissions process and they don’t need it anyway. They also said they don’t recommend contacting your regional counselor either. They really do just want your grades at this point. At least that’s what they told us.
