University of Michigan Deferred Applicants Class of 2022

My main question now is not only when deferred applicants are notified but how that effects their chance for Merit Aid (OOS - COE). Knowing full well Merit Aid is hard to come by anyway.

What did you subject your LOCI?

@Blizzard1 Students admitted by Feb 1 would be automatically considered for merit scholarships. In other words, most deferred applicants would not be eligible.

I don’t believe any deferred applicants would be admitted before February 1st

Just checked again and found the policy has been changed. Now it is only for students admitted by 12/24. I guess it means they have no problem in reviewing all EA applicants before deadline now so they do not expect any late admission from EA after 12/24 anymore.

Wait, so now we aren’t eligible for merit scholarships? I might have to give up on UMich then.

@billcsho - Do you work for school? You just seem to know much more than many of us. Where did you find this info? I’m not doubting you, I just cannot seem to find any information regarding this matter and that is why I posted. Also, is that a fact or your opinion because that could be a game changer for many. Thanks!

Wait, so we have no chance for any merit award… that’s a game changer.

I used to work there but not in the admission or FA office. I have attended many information sessions, campus tours, college fairs, etc over the years and met with the people from admission and FA office. A lot of these information were found on local and campus newspapers too.
For the LSA scholarship eligibility, you can find in the link below:

Get accepted first THEN wait for a financial aid package before you worry too much about scholarships granted by them. You will be amazed at how much a financial aid package can surpass what you are envisioning as a scholarship - it did for me. They just call it a grant instead. .

Forget about vocabulary. If they want you, they are going to find a way for you to be there financially.

For grant, you may get an estimate from the NPC already. If you do get a merit scholarship, it will offset the loan/work study and unmet need, if any. Merit scholarship and grant are stackable up to your EFC. Merit scholarship is not need based, so it may be much more prominent than grant money for some students. Typical LSA scholarship is $5000-$20000 per year.

someone at my school said the first wave of admissions is going to come out jan 17th is this tru???

What about for Engineering?

Engineering scholarship of honor is $8000 (in state) to $20000 (OOS). The scholarship committee meets from late Jan to late March, so EA deferred applicants may still be eligible if admitted in the first round of RD. They do strongly recommend applying EA for merit scholarship consideration.

My schools’s semester ends on the 29th so I don’t see how that would work

@redwingz I certainly hope so. @billcsho you’ve got the most insightful comments-what do you think about the first wave of acceptance comeing out tomorrow? Anybody else’s thoughts?

Deferred COE applicant here. Do I need to submit a LOCI? And who should I send it to if I decide to write one? So many conflicting statements… my deferral letter says “the most successful candidates send us only what we require”. Also, if my counselor submits the midyear report on the common app, does that suffice or does my counsleor have to email admissions?

@Ochillith I have already answer that question many times. The first wave would be in Feb. Jan admission is not likely except for special situations.

@waitinggamemom did you daughter get into Ross pre-admit after deferral? Or did she apply freshman year? My son was admitted EA and is now waiting on Ross… so nervous! Would really like him to be with his brother who is a current junior!

My sister got admitted EA and denied Ross as a freshman but was admitted to Ross as a sophomore. Don’t worry if it doesn’t happen there’s always another’s year
