University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

Has anyone heard from the kinesiology school

@LymanZerga except michigan doesn’t even use affirmative action and you’re an asshole.

Accepted from NJ to college of engineering! 4.0 UW with 2340 superscore, and strong extracurriculars in a variety of areas (service, dance, writing, along with science). I got deferred from a school last week that, while good, is nowhere near UMichigan so I just want to remind everybody of how random this process is and not to take it personally, even though it’s hard not to. We’ll all end up somewhere that works for us!

jsdlkjaklj deferred :((

@illinoisgolf Just got deffered so I’m wondering what steps you took after being deffered like did you send a letter, grades etc.? and then how long did it take to get accepted! thanks!

Was deferred.
! Deferred students will receive an email. There is no good one or bad one: one is for students with relatives at the school the other isn’t.

3.98 unweighted 4.83 weighted (ap is on 5.0 scale)
34 ACT 09 writing
All-National orchestra member with tons of related ECs and leadership positions
On reduced lunch, had some very rough family related issues throughout highschool, wrote about some of that in my essays.
Strong recs
top 10 people in class of ~600

Taking Multivariable calc this semester, done tutoring, a good amt of community service

Not sure why I was deferred. Also just got deferred from Columbia after a super strong interview so…not looking good for me.

I’m hoping Michigan deferred me just to increase their yield because I thought I had a really great shot…applied for Ross preferred admission. Really doesn’t feel great, I’m hoping I have a chance at the other schools on my list…

Planning on sending an email to my regional rep around x-mas re-expressing my interest…not sure what else to do. Almost want to tell her I will attend UMich upon acceptance just because of how disheartening the deferrals are. Can anyone comment on whether this would be wise?

Was accepted direct admit to Kelley @ IU though which is OK but will be expensive.

Dang this really sucks.

@coffee18 or anyone else really, what’s the acceptance rate for deferred applicants

Lol I got into Yale early action and was deferred what the heck!

10isMOM is correct. A deferral is not the end of the road. My D is a freshman now. At this time last year we were biting nails. She received a deferral email with an unweighted GPA of 3.91 and a 32 ACT. She had already started her own business by 16, was studying for her private pilot’s license (we she now has) and had founded a club and leadership program for her school, just to mention a few accolades. She IMMEDIATELY emailed the admissions counselor for our area and stated that UM was her #1 school and added a few items/awards she had received since submitting her application. A few weeks later an admittance email arrived in her inbox. Not only that, but she then gained a pre-admit spot to Ross by March! Don’t give up and GO BLUE!

@TGLTGL Did Kelley give you a merit based scholarship?

@25senior25

Dear Angela:

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2016. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2016.

Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQ’s about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

Sincerely,

Erica L. Sanders
Interim Director

@mom2ljr I receieved some $11,000 scholarship for something with my acceptance letter. I didn’t submit the SSA because there were no scholarships I was eligible for. I’m OOS from the midwest (not Michigan)

I love being deferred from all my EA schools

@coffee18 , best comment I have seen on any of these acceptance threads!

@DABTFL can you tell me what she sent in her email? thank you very much for your comment giving me some hope

Is it appropriate to send a letter of interest after deferral? And what should be included in it?

@TGLTGL won’t Michigan be just as expensive
(if not more) than IU if you are OOS?

ugh deferred…

@slate5 It may be, but to me that be worth it. I believe I will qualify for federal aid and have my own savings from work over the years anyway.

deferred, not surprised, glad I finally know.
