University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

@uofmPlease‌ Just relax and enjoy your Christmas Break. I am the one who needs to worry… But obviously I am not… I am so content to go to Korea for this break so that I do not even care if it is gonna be released this Friday.

Feel like I’m the only one with mediocre scores… 30 OOS. I know my chances aren’t great, but still hopeful anyway. Wishing all of you the best and hopefully some of us will be classmates next year!

@cl3v3land‌ Are you applying for Engineering or LSA? So do I. I have 30 and 4.0 for GPA. You?

@cl3v3land‌
Haha my scores aren’t great either. Pretty sure I am gonna be deferred. 31 ACT, 3.6-3.7 UW and OOS.

Let’s not think that we are gonna be deferred. haha

What date we will receive our EA decision? on Dec. 24? U of Michigan will release all the decisions in one day one wave or separate waves (such as NYU) or different days?

@cl3v3land‌ I feel ya! (28 here OOS as well) I’ve seen people in CC chance threads who have a perfect 36 ACT and have still felt the need to be chanced… It’s crazy!

I have a 3.8ish, depends how they weight it. I applied to LSA, but PA Ross (not sure why, there was never a chance). Hoping essays and whatnot sway them my way! I’m such an optimist - I keep visualizing myself opening the email to “Congratulations!”

@uofmPlease‌ Glad I’m not the only one! Crossing my fingers for us.

Does the fact that I come from one of the worst schools in my state (I think it’s about 490/600) help my chances at all? I don’t think anyone has applied to UMich from my school in at least 10 years…

I have a 31 ACT and a 3.5 UW GPA. However my counselor told me they would accept my weighted GPA of 3,8 as my unweighted if she told them to? I don’t understand how that works so im pretty sure I’m not going to get accepted unfortunately with my GPA

36 ACT and 4.0 GPA, but hey, it comes down to a lot more than scores. Good luck to all of you guys!

Quick question: So the general consensus seems to be that decisions are going to come out on Friday (I know that’s speculation, but it sounds right). Does anyone know at what time they are typically released?

No one has ever applied for Michigan from my school too

My year the decisions started to be released relatively early (3ish I believe?) however the release decisions throughout the afternoon/evening and continue to release them throughout the weekend. I was deferred and received my decision around 7:30 on Friday. Hope that helps! Best of luck to all of you! I remember being where you were, and I know it’s tough, but try to take a deep breath! If you have any questions feel free to direct them at me! I’m happy to help. Go Blue!

@kkid24‌ can u go on one of my threads and chance me? I would highly appreciate it!

So I’m not really qualified to give you and accurate idea of whether you’ll be accepted or not because I do not work in admissions, however here are my thoughts: I was an OOS applicant (IL) with a 34 composite ACT, 4.23 weighted GPA and plenty of extracurriculars and volunteer hours as well as being a legacy. And I was deferred. I’m not saying this to scare anyone because you all seem like really good candidates to be accepted. I’m saying this because I am hoping it will help you all to understand that a deferral does not mean you will not get in. In most OOS cases, if you are a strong applicant (which it appears you are) a deferral likely means that they did not have time to get to your application, but that they will get to it. I was accepted a little over a month after my deferral before they even began to review the regular decision applications. I personally believe that you, as well as many other people on this thread, are highly qualified and have good chances of being accepted. I’m sorry if that wasn’t exactly what you were looking for, but I hope that it was helpful!

@kkid24 Your stats are really close to mine, down to the state, so I’m expecting a deferral! Lol I’ve already gotten deferred from Purdue, but I’m not going for CoE at Michigan like I was for Purdue.

I’m a junior at U of M but my younger brother is a HS senior and applying to Michigan, and this is what I’ve heard from my high school’s college counselor (who is a very connected individual; obviously this is the Internet and don’t believe everything you read blah blah blah especially here on CC, but I trust him a lot and would be shocked if this info is not true): EA decisions will definitely be released this Friday. On the negative side, he also said that they actually received over 30,000 EA applications and will be going even further than past years in limiting EA acceptances (and overall acceptances for that matter) due to the overenrollment we all know about. So essentially, it’s not all talk and they’re actually going to do something about it, starting this year. Unfortunately this sucks for my brother and all you Class of 2019’ers, but such is life.

This is not to freak anybody out, but just what I’ve heard that I’m sure you’re all interested in. FWIW I’m glad as hell I’m not the one going through this process again. :stuck_out_tongue: Also I received my email around 4-5 PM Pacific time and my friends received their emails throughout the day, but no earlier than around 1:30 PM Pacific, and as late as around 6-7 PM. So expect the email within that range.

There are 100 people who apply to michigan each year from my school(in new york), plenty of people with less than a 3.5 get in. @mixedberrysaurus I got into Purdue CoE and applied Michigan LSA…not as confident however.

Just curious, but why do so many people from your school in New York apply to UMich? I go to one of the top feeder schools and I don’t even know how many more than that we have apply 0_0

Lol we are also a feeder school. 35-50% get in each year.
