University of Michigan Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@Overestimated “Even if found equivalent it does not automatically mean you will get accepted, please keep that in mind.”

I do realize that. It seems to me that they must think her app is at least a serious candidate though or there is no purpose in assessing it at this level of detail.

It was a heads up for me because I realized she is more seriously considering a transfer than I thought.

@Much2learn That basically means your D is transferring from a school that that are not familiar with. Have you checked their transfer credit database?

Anyone know when probably will I hear back? I am so nervous rn. My last material was received on 2/22

At least one month I guess.

@billsho
It sounds like that may be the case.

Are you familiar with how schools review transfers? For freshmen applicants, when a college begins making very specific requests for very specific additional information, you know that they are at least giving the applicant serious consideration. Does it work the same way for transfers? That makes sense, but I have not dealt with many transfers.

@racheliiiiii I’m super nervous too. Honestly you probably won’t hear back until late March or April since it takes 4-6 weeks since your last material was received. But, some people hear back really quickly! I’m going on week 4 of hearing nothing. My attitude at this point is no news is good news since lots of people recently have been denied.

Oh, sorry about that. But how many credits are there on your transcripts? I am a little worried about this too.

My sister got accepted to LSA as a transfer a couple weeks ago. Does anyone know how long it takes them to release their financial aid packages? Does Michigan give out generous financial aid even to out-of-state transfers?

@Much2learn okay so “detail” hmmm. To me umich is asking because they have no clue if courses are equivalent, that’s it, not because she is a strong candidate or even weak. Good luck either way. The more they ask for information is not a good thing because for most students the basic information is good enough.

@Overestimated Maybe, but I am not sure. I mean, it seems to me that they receive many applications are an easy “yes”, or an easy “no.” If an application it is an easy “No”, then why would admissions bother to investigate the details of a specific course like Calc II?

I do understand that top schools are very picky about what math credits they accept. A Mom at D’s current school recently told me that the math department (stupidly in my opinion) refused credit for a Calc course from U of Chicago, because they combed through it and it apparently lacked one particular subject that they cover. However, you don’t need to know that level of detail unless a candidate is at least a serious candidate.

The interesting thing here is everyone wants to know why this process takes so long. Well, you are now finding out. They take this all seriously.

@Much2learn everyone is a serious candidate until they show they are not. Cliche or not, whatever.
To your latter point, I do not think that it’s dumb at all that they rejected the course. If the curriculum doesn’t match up you won’t be prepared for further classes at the university because a higher level class will expect you to know some minute detail. Key thing to understand is they want you to be prepared.
Just so you know, no one here can give you an answer, we can give you false hope/information. We can’t assume anything and you should also not assume anything. The only people who can tell you if your daughter is a “serious candidate”, is the admissions committee. All I can tell you is she is a candidate.

@Overestimated I concur

@kmwumich My brother and I both transferred from UMD to UM-AA and the credit transfer has been a smooth and easy process. The only hard part is the tuition, which was evident. But we both saved our money for a few years and attended UMD- great university… Also only have a few people’s experiences but we hear back pretty soon (UMD people)

Thank you for your responses! I actually just received an email from LSA Transfer Days congratulating me on my admission, yet I did not receive an email saying I was accepted and it’s still not in Wolverine Access…I’m freaking out! I’m hoping it’s not a mistake and within the next few days an official decision will be released. I feel like this is such a tease since I don’t want to tell people I was admitted until I get the official email, but then why would they send me this other email?! :-SS

@kmwumich same situation

@kmwumich People are replying to this email like crazy and most of them haven’t got their offers either. Guess it’s a mistake but fingers crossed and let’s hope for the best!

@kmwumich I was rejected over a month ago but received this same email. I wouldn’t get your hopes up until you get an official email :frowning: I’d email your counselor though, s/he might have an answer. Good luck!

WHO ELSE RECIEVED THE LSA CONGRADULATION EMAIL??? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? AM I ADMITTED? I HAVENT SEEN ANYTHING ON WOLVERINE ACCESS, SOMEONE EXPLAIN PLEASE!

Someone needs to explain right now. What the hell is going on
