University of Michigan Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

I just received word yesterday that I have been accepted into the school of LSA for the 2018 fall semester. Woo hoo!

@MGoBlueBen That’s so awesome! Congrats!! Do you know when your application was marked complete or when all your documents were received?

@U-MFAN Thank you very much!! My application was marked complete on 12/24/2017. Everything was received by then as well, because everything was sent well in advance of the application, with the exception of my college transcripts which were sent on the 22nd and processed on the 23rd.

Hi all, could someone chance me?

MI resident, CC freshman

HS GPA: 3.4 from a competitive private school
lots of extracurriculars, editor of literary publication in school, won numerous in school writing awards
varsity athlete
Had an incident in high school, was suspended for arguing with a teacher (non-violent). Wrote about how I grew from the incident, how I was having personal issues at home, and have matured greatly since then.

College GPA: 4.0 in 16 credits, currently taking another 16 credits, midterm is coming up and I’m projected to make 4.0 again
Internship with State representative
Paid Caretaker for kids with chronic illnesses (I wrote an essay about it because my father has the same chronic illness)

recs: glowing, got three profs to write for me! 9.5/10

Essays: All were very good. I talked about my English major and the atmosphere of LSA and the residential college and how important language and communication is to me. Collectively 8.5/10

Hooks: Entire family went to Umich, mom, grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle

I submitted my application three days ago. I also applied last year early action.

I got accepted to LSA at midnight!!! So excited! Good luck to everyone! Also, my application was marked complete 1/5/18.

@U-MFAN , CONGRATS!!! Would you mind sharing your stats?

Received my acceptance letter into LSA this morning! App was marked complete on 1/11/18

For those of you who have submitted your apps, how long it did take you to receive a U-M ID after submitting your Common App?

Thank you!! I was given a sophomore transfer option (maintain 3.0 or higher) when I applied last year as a senior in high school. My college gpa: 3.8

@U-MFAN That’s fantastic!! Congrats on your acceptance and good luck at U-M!!!

Hey everyone! I’m also applying to transfer to LSA for fall 2018, I’m sending my application in tomorrow or Saturday, still waiting on a professor to finish a Letter of Recommendation. What are my chances of getting in?

-Currently a sophomore, I’ll be applying with 62 credits
GPA: 3.74
-In-State, currently at U of M-Dearborn
-Psychology Major
-Extra-curriclulars include working 30 hours a week, shadowing Occupational Therapists, tutoring elementary children, volunteering at a food bank, helping out in a Kindergarten classroom
-I feel really good about my essays, I’ve spent weeks on them and had multiple people edit and make suggestions to improve them
-Two professors are writing Letters of Recommendation
-Made the Dean’s list all three semesters of College
-High School GPA: 3.51
-ACT- 25
-Student Council for two years, volunteered at same food bank, tutored children

I applied last year but only had 32 credits going in so I wasn’t expecting much. I’m really hoping that this year will work out, what do you think? Thanks!

Oh, also I have 6 AP credits that transfer (Psych and English Composition), and three credits from a community college (took a summer course there)

Does anyone know what has to occur to have admission as a transfer rescinded once accepted? In other words what grades are required in each class for the current semester. Or does it go by cumulative GPA?

@kmwumich You’re in. Don’t even worry at all. You’re a shoe in as long as you put at least some effort into your essays. You satisfy and go beyond every guideline. You are significantly more qualified than me, and I got into LSA easily.

@blondebonske17 It took me four days to get my Umich ID #

I sent in my highschool transcript and college transcript in weeks ago but forgot about my dual enrollment classes in high school although the dual enrollment classes show on my hs transcript. And I know it says they want all post secondary transcripts including dual enrollment. But I just requested that transcript in today. Does anyone know if the transcript has to be in by the deadline or as long as it was sent before I should be fine??

@bambam99 You’re fine. The only thing that’s 100% needed by the 02/01/2018 is the application. Your transcript should honestly be received before the first anyways.

I’m sure everyone in here knows how nerve racking this whole process is, reading old threads, getting paranoid at every post about rejection. I was hoping someone more knowledgeable could share their opinion of my overall application.

-College: Syracuse University
-Intended Major: (CoE) Mechanical Engineering
-Pre-Reg GPA: 3.76 w/o calc 3 and linear algebra which I’ll have completed by the end of my spring semester.
-Before attending SU 2 years, I attended CC for 2 years taking general electives so hopefully 60-80 credits will transfer.
-Two very strong letters of rec, one from my mentor at my internship and the other from my research professor, both who said they spoke very highly of me.
-All my essays were pretty good, 8-10/10. In my community essay I spoke about coming from a low-income home and how it’s made a stronger person.

EC’s
-Design Engineer for SU High Energy Physics Group in collaboration with the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva.
-World-renowned automotive engineering firm co-op program last year (6 months full time)
-I work in the engineering machine shop assisting seniors with final design projects and manufacturing faculty research components.
-Lead manufacturing engineer for SU formula racing team
-Prototype machinist for the SU physics department
-Calculus and physics tutor
-I also do a bunch of personal projects like designing and building relatively advanced machinery which I talked about in my essays.

All of my materials were received by 12/22/2017, but I think my application has been put back because Michigan requested additional materials to evaluate my C++ programming pre-req from community college.

Thanks again.

Also had a significant upward trend in performance. I had something like a 2.3 GPA in high school. There were some pretty serious family issues, but I didn’t even touch on that in my app considering I graduated 5 years ago. Then 3.65 at CC and 3.76 overall GPA at SU. I’ve read that has some effect on the admissions process, not sure how true that is, but figured it couldn’t hurt to include.

Is there anyone applied for spring term?
