Umm... I think it's 1/29/07 I got my 4/4 email

I thought it'd take a LOT longer, since they quoted an 8-10 week period, and that I didn't feel that my application was that strong either...

Congrats Cvjn! You're so fortunate to not have endured the agony of waiting months and months for a decision from Michigan. Perhaps they do things differently for transfers...

I have a weird question. I actually got the 4/4 email BEFORE my app was complete. You see, my high school totally messed up with sending my transcript. I called Michigan to see if they had received it and they said "no" even though I went to my high school and personally handed it in to a secretary who said it would be taken care of. Turns out they did some reshuffling in the college office and my transcript request was sitting in a filing cabinet for a couple of months. I had to go back again to my high school to get this fixed again. Michigan finally received it a week ago even though I got the 4/4 email early this month. When should I consider the complete date for my app? When I got the 4/4 email or when they posted my high school transcript as "received"? Michigan also has my high school transcript with up to my 1st term senior year grades since I applied to UMich out of high school, so is there any chance that it is still in my file and they temporarily used it in lieu of the updated hs transcript?

They did the same for me. I got my 4/4 email before my application was complete. 4/4 - was like 1/29, while completed was closer to 2/5

You would consider your completed date as when you should start counting down the days / weeks / months.

however my case was really weird, they quoted me for 8-10 weeks yesterday when I called in and asked. It was supposedly earliest like in Mid/Late March. I didn't expect to get it today, which is only like 2 and a half weeks after I submitted. Maybe transfer apps are different...

Cvjn, are you also applying transfer to NYU? Cause I think I recognize you from the NYU transfer threads...

Yes... and No.

Originally, my two choice schools were University of Michigan and NYU. I had applied to both, but I found out this week that my professor didn't turn in my recommendation. I had spent this week searching for her, but she basically disappeared off the face of the planet.

I don't know my professors that well this semester, and contacting my old ones would be kind of weird (especially kind of late) so I kinda just gave NYU my admissions money.

I have a similar dilemma, Cvjn. I need two recs for one of my schools (Rice, which I am extremely under-qualified for anyway) and although I have one in the bag, the rest of my classes have either been lectures w/ students in the triple digits, classes where the prof. doesn't speak English well and there is very little interaction aside from showing slides and taking notes (might as well be 100 kids in those classes even though there are 50), or classes that I took last term. Congrats on the Michigan acceptance though! What major did you apply for UMich and NYU?

Cvjn, when did you submit your application and when did you get the first email, second, etc, roughly?

And if anyone can help me out, my username is NOT a valid email address, although there is a valid email address listed on the application (I kinda screwed up..), so I haven't received any emails even though I submitted my application and paid on Feb 21 and 12:24 PM.

Do you guys think something is wrong? =

lucky I save emails :)

1st email - 1/12/07
2nd email - 1/12/07
3rd email - 1/12/07
4th email - 1/29/07 (I had gotten my UMID earlier than that, like closer to 1/20/07)

Application completed - 2/5/07

Decision - 2/23/07

You might want to call them for any questions, or at the very least use the online IM thing.

Um, well I want to do something in management / international business as a career, but I want to get started off doing investment banking. So I'll probably do something like finance or something. Not too sure exactly what they offer, but I'll check it out my spring break (next week woo!)

Mine was done really quickly though, I was quoted 10-12 weeks, with mid March being the earliest...

hey cvjn, are you a freshman or a sophomore?
just curious b/c I'm applying to umich(ross) and nyu-stern as well
did you apply to nyu stern? or cas?
ross doesn't even allow turning in the app online until march which sux
i want to get my decision asap!

so uh...i submitted my application to the school of engineering on 2/17/2007. i'm not exactly sure what this 4/4 email is, but when d you think i'll get one / also recieve an admissions decision?

You should be getting it this week, or early next week. The big thing that's really important on there is your UMID and how to register for a friend account (which is basically to check the status of yoru application)

So...Feb. 20th I got a letter from U.Mich saying that they completed an initial review of my application and while I am "qualified"...the large number of applicants prevents them from making a final decsion and they will look at my app again in APRIL!!!!

I cant believe this, I'm going to call the office on Monday. Anyone else in the same boat????

cellardoor7, that definitely bites. However, believe it or not, the fact the Michigan was honest with you and told you that you won't be getting your decision for awhile is a lot less rude than what they did last year. A lot of people last year were deferred then waitlisted then rejected. Most did not expect to wait that long and weren't notified that they'd have to wait that amount of time either. Good luck.

dude that bites :(

just remember, keep working hard~! it's not over till it's over!

i believe the way it works is that one person reads ur app...makes a decision..in or not

then a 2nd person does the same, if they agree, then thats it.

if they dont, then u get a big fat waiting period becuz then a committee looks it over, and they probably wont touch it until theyre done looking at the rest for initial review...

this is why umich is notorious....

cvjn..i pm'd you

so i got an email today saying that my application has been received. there is no UMID on it though...is this because I applied to engineering? also, is it possible to double major engineering + business at mich as a transfer?

cvjn..i pm'd you
[/quote]

I haven't gotten the PM. Either that, or I responded to it and forgot.

and for the major question, that I'm not too sure about. I'd say call them and ask if that's possible. If you're going to the engineering school, I'm leaning on a no.

For my email that had the UMID # in there, it was titled "UM Admissions Application"

The one that says that my application was recieved, was my email 3/4

Cvjn, did you check your Wolverine Access account and then found out or did you first receive an email telling you that a decision has been made?

Thanks for answering all of our questions so willingly!
