University of michigan transfer

Well contramundum09,
If people joined in the last few weeks, obviously they won’t have many posts. =P

@arizonaaqua YEEEAH BUDDY!

what were your stats???

ACT: 27
COL GPA: 3.7
HS GPA: 3
A Ton of EC/Job experiences
And really great essays

does anyone know when decisions will be released? Do most people find out by mid feb? I applied 1/20. Thanks and good luck!

Applied to: LSA
Current School: Eastern Michigan University
ACT: 26 (32 math, 27 english)
COL GPA: 3.81 (Not an easy schedule either, purposely chose it in hopes of transferring to University of Michigan)
HS GPA: 2.9
EC: Several clubs, started a few profiting web based projects which get views in the millions monthly.
Essays: Perfect/proofread by professors

Had 3 professor recommendations, one of which the teacher commented on how I was the only student he ever had that passed the class with over a 100%.

Rejected today. I assume it was because of my high school transcript (I figured due to the huge amount of improvement they wouldn’t look to far into it), act, or because I applied so late. I’m just glad I didn’t end up wasting my time applying to the engineering school.

@michiganfanboy

How many semesters where you at EMU and when did you apply? Also, how did you find out (email or is it in the application status part of the umich web login)?

@newfrontier

I completed two semesters. I applied January 25th, so it’s weird that people here haven’t heard when they applied much earlier, which leads me to believe that they just ran out of spaces or they really don’t like students with low high school gpas.

I got my response via email, the app status link isn’t up on wolverine access for me yet, so I assume it is currently in processing.

This was my first time applying to umich, but honestly I’m not sure if I even want to bother applying Winter '12 after getting rejected so quickly.

@michiganfanboy

Ya that is weird I applied on the same day and have very similar stats and haven’t heard back. Don’t know if that is a good thing or bad thing…

Yeah, wth, I applied on the 18th and still no answer, maybe it has to do with when the supplements arrive.

It seems like they have few spots this year because good students are getting rejected =(. Also seems like if you got in,you find out through Wolverine Access

@newfrontier I don’t know, they notified me via email not too long ago, maybe they were having a bad day and mine was the last application for the day.

Hopefully they’ll be more generous when they look at yours, best of luck to you!

@Bernie1 That’s a possibility, I sent my supplement/transcripts/etc early-mid January. I submitted the actual app itself on the 25th though.

@arizonaaqua What school do you go to now and how long have you been there? Also, are you in-state or OOS?

Does anyone know if it is easier to transfer to U of M from in-state or OOS?

I heard from a Umich professor that i’m close to, who may or may not know what he’s talking about, that Umich prefers OOS students and that even if your in state, they give you a hard time proving that in you are in fact a resident since OOS pay much more for tuition.

I have kind of a unique situation and I was wondering if anybody had any advice or perspective on it.

I am from Ann Arbor and applied to U of M fall 2009 with a 3.5 HS GPA, not many extracurriculars, etc., and got waitlisted.

After I was not let in off the waitlist, I enrolled at Eastern Michigan University and took a super-light load my first two semesters there - I only had 24 credits by the end of the year, but a 3.8 GPA. At the urging of some family friends in UMich admissions, I reapplied for Winter 2011 transfer and was rejected, but told that if I wanted to reapply, all I had to do was send a note to them asking to have my application reevaluated.

I think it was the 9 and 12 credit semesters my first year that caused me to get rejected for winter. Fall 2010 semester I took 17 credits and right now, I have a 3.86 GPA, and will have 56 credits by the end of this semester. I applied on 1/26 for a “Transfer Update Request”, as instructed by a UMich Admissions Counselor. I didn’t have to formally reapply or fill out any applications, write any essays, etc. - I just had my Fall 2010 grades sent, and now on Wolverine Access it says that my Fall 2011 application is complete.

I am kind of scared, because I have never heard of anyone having to reapply this way. Has anyone ever known anyone who’s gone through this particular process, rather than the traditional reapplication?

Also, I know that some admissions decisions were released on 2/8. If I didn’t hear, does that mean I probably didn’t get in?

You’ll hear sometime between now and mid-April. Don’t worry. I applied Jan 3 and haven’t heard anything yet.

rejected today:

when did you apply?

January 27th

sorry for all of the questions. Did you find out via email or wolverine access?

by email, the decision hasn’t even showed up on WA yet

Applied three weeks ago, wondering what my chances are
