“2020 UMich” isn’t “2005 Small College U.” Apples and oranges. Just read the financial statement. Also, UMich Medicine and UMich football are multi-billion dollar businesses.
So, let’s please move on. The kids on the UMich waitlist really don’t care about this discussion at all.
@sushiritto - do you really think football or any other money making sport will be played this year?
Not sure where you live but the corona virus is getting worse. I think we are being very optimistic thinking colleges are going to open and stay open for the semester - not to mention the year. Every single health professional I have spoken to - has told me the same thing - without a vaccine, the virus will be raging in the fall.
I think every college is struggling to figure out what to do. Ideally you want your annual revenue to cover your annual costs - regardless of your size. When that doesn’t happen - everybody gets nervous. The big money makers might not happen this year - the dorms, the cafeteria, the sports.
I am not saying this is going to equal yes or no to someone on a waitlist- it is just another part of the uncertainty.
I value your insight - you have a lot to say and are very helpful on this sight.
@Knowsstuff As of right now, I’m committed to Michigan State to study chemical engineering. I already have almost all the requirements to transfer fulfilled through my dual-enrollment in high school and AP credits. I just need to finish physics I&II. so hopefully I can try and apply again after my first year!!
I have not heard of any movement on the Ross waitlist since 5/15. I believe 3 in-state students received offers. I have not heard of any out of state offers. Best of luck @avocadotoast31
So like, there’s definitely no way I’m getting off the waitlist as a OOS with a 4.1 W, 3.77 UW, 1440 SAT, for the College of Engineering. Either way I don’t care anymore since I’m going to USC in the fall. Wish I knew I got into USC before I accepted my waitlist since I basically stole someone’s spot and I never knew how to remove that waitlist offer after asking like five people but good luck to everyone and I hope you all get promising results in the near future.
Just going by what they said that June 30th would be it. But as stated we have heard of people trickling in later. You will get an email or portal notice stating if you were denied or accepted but until then…
… My son a few years ago his only wait list was Georgia Tech. He was already accepted to Michigan by that point but I swear they never sent him anything?.
Every year we hear the great colleges you all are going to. We hear very few that actually transfer. Maybe they just don’t report back? But if you are considering it then look at what I posted. There is one also for general classes also for equivalency.https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/transfer-students
Again, Michigan is extremely picky with science and math and will deny a class on the littlest things. Talk to a counselor and make sure it’s listed. They will help you. My son went through it with a physics 2, Calc 3 classes over the summer at a community College to save some money. They really care that your getting what they perceive is the correct information and learning.

I think many people decide not to transfer. Unless you really dislike where you are or the prestige level or fit isn’t right, doesn’t seem worth it. Most people I know who are holding out on waitlists got into very good schools, just not their top choice. For eg., if your son had gotten into GT but not off the waitlist at UMich (reverse scenario) would he have transferred? I doubt most people would. The waitlist is the last stop for most of us.
No. He didn’t really care about GT. Great school but not the best fit. We, the parents, wanted him to stay on “just to see”. It was a very stupid approach. He was already committed and happy with his choice. He never told us if he had a number 1
He thought that attitude was silly. He said he can only go to schools that accept him so why get too hooked into schools that don’t. I think he might be correct.
As I have said many times in many threads. You will get accepted, denied, deferred, rejected and wait listed by some great schools.
Same here. Would stay on a waitlist for a school I preferred, but not for one I didn’t want. Also would not transfer unless I really ended up somewhere bad. Luckily that’s not the case.
My daughter is headed to University of Toronto - she will not transfer.
I believe the waitlist will be over on June 30 for the most part. It is possible they might (might) take students off after that - maybe 1 or 2 if someone drops out, but not much.
BTW - thanks to all who sent me pms (personal messages) on my earlier discussion.
