If we are sending a LOCI, who should we send it to? Our regional counselor?
If you really want to send a LoCI, I would recommend to do that shortly after May 1.
@billcsho Why after May 1? Aka why not now? Like I understand that would be when they’d be looking to fill spots, but if I sent something now (showing that this is my first priority) would that hurt me?
JW does @billcsho work at the undergraduate office of admissions at U of M?
@wowisntthisfun I think you should send a LOCI now --but keep it brief, not more than a paragraph or two (and if you can, include mention of any additional significant info not previously provided–such as award, competitions, extracurricular). State in a few sentences why you think you would be good for Michigan–and why it’s a good fit. And mention you would attend (but only if true) if admitted. Then send a follow up email after May 1st checking on status, reiterating your interest and state again that you would attend (but only if true) if admitted off of the waitlist. At this point don’t be shy about being assertive - what’s that saying (?) the squeaky wheel gets the bacon.
If we send a LOCI , will we still qualify for financial aid. My son is admitted to UC Davis in CA , so it is very hard to see the price tag of OOS and ignore it. He wants to go to Umich but the cost is preventing us to send an LOCI. Are there people in the same boat ? What is your opinion especially if you have a seat reserved at a UC.
They don’t know how many seats they need to fill until after May 1. Then, they need to act quickly. A more recent LoCI will get their attention more. Sending a LoCI now is no different from accepting the waitlist offer. If your do not have continue interest, you would not accept the waitlist offer. In any case, DO NOT put much hope or effort on the waitlist. Do not hold back anything for it either. They offer >20 times of the whole freshmen class size waitlist while it typical has less than 1% of the freshmen seats need to be filled after May 1.
@billcsho Do we send the LOCI to our regional counselor? do we just email the letter to him/her?
@IreneLeee Waitlisted Applicants from previous years have indicated that they emailed the letter to their regional counselor. I am planning to do the same
@“AKK@uofm” do you or anyone else know if the guaranteed transfer is a actually a guaranteed transfer or simply more of a recommendation to apply sooner. Someone from my school reapplied as a transfer while getting that waitlist message and just now got in. Also, my school counselor(close with umich) agreed that it was more of a recommendation. Additionally, she said that the new waitlist admittance rate(~10%) should be the new norm. I’m skeptical of that but it’s definately a possibility. I guess just plan on applying as a sophmore transfer if you really want to attend and rely on your backups for now until we hear back.
@EthanAz1 It is definitely a guaranteed transfer option. My friend took that her offer during her sophomore year too and now attends UM Ann Arbor she transferred from UM Dearborn.
A guarantee is a guarantee unless they have listed out the requirement such as a minimum GPA. There is no norm, now or before, in wait list admission rate. It is all depending on the yield rate. With the current yield rate, they would have to admit 1000 less students to leave room for the number of WL admission as last year. Although they do have plan to use the wait list more or a few years already to avoid over enrollment problem, it is not likely to admit over 5% of freshmen class from the WL. It was around 6.5% last year.
How do you know if you have a guaranteed sophomore transfer?
I applied for a dual degree and was accepted into Music but wait-listed for Engineering. Do you think I have a good chance of being accepted for engineering?
@Panda_juice Just clicked yes to the wait list offer and moved on. Already have ~$500 of deposits in for various things elsewhere. If a miracle happens in June I’ll evaluate the options, but I’m essentially already gone. Have already routed against U of M in sporting events
Is the LOCI directed to the regional counselor or the dean of admission? So is it like dear dean of admissions or dear name of counselor?
So waitlist decisions start coming out in May and go on until early July?
Or sorry, late July?
Anyone got a reply yet for sending the LOCI?
I’m kind of clueless about this whole LOCI thing. Is it an email or physical letter you guys are writing?
