I’ve decided to attend the University of Minnesota @MinneMom2 because I know that I will work hard and I shouldn’t have a problem transferring as long I stay motivated be academically competitive.
I don’t know which advisors the students might have had, and I’d be surprised if they remember. The individual advisor isn’t too important in the scheme of things- it’s more about you.
As far as I know (and it’s been a while), you’ll be assigned an advisor if and when you enroll. Each college has their own set, and because CLA is so large, they break those up into communities based on majors. (http://onestop.umn.edu/degree_planning/advising.html). I’m guessing that you would be assigned to the “Health and Natural Sciences” community (http://hns.class.umn.edu/).
In addition to your personal advisor, and your community, there is also the ability to drop in if you have quick questions ( https://cla.umn.edu/student-services-advising/advising/meet-advisor )
Nearly all advising is done Monday through Friday during business hours, so keep that in mind. If you drive down on the weekend, you’re not likely to find anyone to chat with in the advising offices.
Also, if you haven’t yet actually enrolled, your questions might be better sent to your admissions counselor (http://admissions.tc.umn.edu/counselors/cla.html). I don’t know that academic counselors can work with prospective students… but then again, they would know the answers better than I.
I’m happy to hear you’re going for it, @swanny1210! And I have no doubt you’ll achieve your goals. Best of luck to you. Go Gophers!
