hello there, we all know that the may 1st deadline is approaching near (faster than I thought) and i mostly want to attend the university of minnesota tc for chem engg. however, i applied as undeclared in the CSE department and i cannot find out anywhere how the process of changing my major to chem engg would work once admitted. i desperately want to know the loopholes that i'll face when later declaring my major. For example, will i be admitted to the chemE department only on a space available basis and not end up with my desired major or will its doors always be open for me to choose? i'd love to hear from you how it works because i don't want to be compelled to do some other major at CSE than the one i want to. desperately waiting for info!!!

You realize that you don’t have to declare your major until sophomore year? I’m pretty sure whatever you put on your App was just a guideline, not you actually declaring it.

Yes I know that I have to declare my major in the sophomore year but I want to know what are the hurdles that an engineering undeclared student would face in the CSE while declaring a major, chemE specifically. also, are those students who have selected chemE on their app guaranteed chemE majors in their soph year or do they also have to face some hurdles?

At the U, you are admitted to the specific college (CSE), not the major. You and everyone else regardless if they put ChemE or w/e on their app, are the same. You just need to take the pre-requisites and apply for the major. That is all.

The major or undeclared status that you’ve listed is just a guideline like the previous poster mentioned. I

Good Luck!

I think I’m right, but make sure by checking the CSE website.

well the website does indicate what the two of you told me and it’s good news for me that that confusion has now cleared off my mind. looks like i’ll be accepting my decision to the U by tomorrow!!! thanks a lot for the help :)

[Applying for a major form : College of Science & Engineering : University of Minnesota, Twin Cities](http://cse.umn.edu/services/advising/CSE_CONTENT_188758.php)
If you get a 3.2+ technical GPA you are guaranteed your choice of major. ChemE is the most competitive so I would make sure you reach that mark.

gee! thanks for the info, didn’t trip over that.
