University of Pittsburgh-Class of 2019 Acceptance

She just got acceptance letter from Duquesne yesterday and she applied at the same time. I’m sure Pitt has more apps to go through. Hopefully, we’ll hear by the end of this week.

@ProudMomx3 Thanks! My son’s was complete a week after yours so hopefully letter will arrive next week.

Thanks for the link, it was very helpful!

I applied Oct 7 and was accepted Oct 22 into Dietrich School. 3.7 GPA and 2010 SATs

@Chelsey123, During a summer advising session prior to the beginning of the freshman year, all students discuss their unique educational plans with academic advisors. The advisors will be able to help you determine any credits you may be exempt from. In the meantime, we do have a list of credits Pitt offers for any AP or IB exams: http://www.oafa.pitt.edu/pdf/CreditAPIBExam.pdf</a> Hope that helps!

@adkdad, I just made this comment in another thread: we have received an influx of applications, so it is taking us additional time to process applications. If you do not heard from us yet, don’t be concerned. We are working hard to make sure you will hear from us soon. Thanks for your patience!

@hailtopitt1787 - are you seeing more apps this year compare to years past?

At this point, it is highly likely we will surpass last year’s record number of applications. So yes, we are getting a lot of apps this year. It is very exciting to us that so many people are showing an interest in Pitt. Our admissions committee has a lot of great applications to review!

Additionally, to those who are curious, please check my.pitt.edu for information on your application status. Though, we do ask that you wait at least two weeks after applying to check, it is unlikely there will be any changes to your status before that time.

@hailtopitt1787, can you clarify something for me? My son was accepted to the Swanson School of Engineering with a grad school guarantee. Is that guarantee only for Engineering programs? What if he decides that he wants to attend medical school at Pitt? He’s considering it.

@hailtopitt1787 - D can’t log on to my.pitt.edu using the user name and password she used for the app. She also doesn’t remember getting different user name/password. Do I need to call someone?

@FromMD, Yes, you do! Call 412-624-7488 for assistance.

@Curiousinpa, the freshmen guarantee he received should specify what school it is for and the guarantee would be for only that graduate school. If your son is considering med school as an option instead, there are many resources available to help him prepare for that path. http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/health-professions-advising</a>.

My son just got his acceptance envelope in the mail today. Dietrich School - will major in Comp Science.
Very Excited!!!

I was wondering what the course exemptions might be aside from AP/CHS classes. I’m considering retaking the SAT again even though I’ve already been accepted to possibly be exempt from some basic course requirements. I would like to kind of know what scores I should aim to get for the exemptions.

@hailtopitt1787, I attended an event for prospective students at Pitt over the summer, where I was given a fee waiver code for my application that could be used as long as I applied before a certain date. So, I applied in August, and planned on sending in the optional essay portion and letters of recommendation soon after (before October 15th). However, I received my acceptance letter before October 15th (and before I had the chance to send in my additional materials). I’m worried that I was not considered for merit scholarships, admission to the Honors College, or guaranteed admission to the School of Law because the admissions committee did not receive my essays or letters of recommendation. I have an above average SAT score (2110), am a 2015 National Merit Commended Scholar, and recently (after I submitted my application) received recognition by the NHRP as a 2015 National Hispanic Scholar, I’m an out-of-state student, and I really hope to attend Pitt, so tuition/merit scholarships are very important to me. Is there any way I could add my essays/recommendations to my application file and be considered/reconsidered for merit scholarships, the Honors College, and/or guaranteed admission to the School of Law?

I received my acceptance on October 31st. Anyone know when I should expect information about merit aid (if I am to receive any) based on their experiences? Thanks in advance.

@marinasullivan, you can still submit additional materials to your application file. The Scholarship Committee will begin meeting this week, so I encourage you to submit them as soon as possible. Please submit any materials you would like to include with your application as a PDF attachment to oafa@pitt.edu. Please make sure that your name, date of birth, and address are on any supplemental materials you sends along so that we can make sure it gets placed with your application.

@chelsey123 let me do a little further digging on the course exemptions question for you!

@123456789woop, the Scholarship Committee begins meeting this week and will meet weekly until the spring. You could hear anytime between middle of November and March 1st.

@hailtopitt1787, I have a question about scholarships. If you are hoping for a larger scholarship that what you receive, I understand that you can ask for a second review. Is it true that you need to provide copies of scholarship offers from other universities in order to get a second review?

@hailtopitt1787‌
Thank you very much! I really appreciate all of your help.

@curiousinpa‌, we have a process called Cost Analysis. This is a form scholarship recipients can fill out if they find their net coast (tuition, room/board, and fees minus the scholarship) to attend Pitt is not competitive with the net cost at another comparable school. You can fill out and submit a form with a copy of the award letter from the other school. This cost-analysis process will not begin until mid-January at the earliest.
