University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

Yes, sorry. She took both. ACT was 31.

My D received her acceptance video in her email today! Anyone know how long the portal takes to update? She was trying to view an financial aid info.

I submitted my application on 10/12 through the common app and I originally sent my transcripts through my guidance office in September. To speed up the time I had to wait for my decision, I did the SRAR on 10/31. I still have not heard anything and since Pitt is my first choice, I am really eager to get my decision. Is it bad I haven’t heard anything yet??

ACCEPTED! Applied on 11/1/18

Pre-Medicine at the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences

GPA: 3.66 Weighted
SAT: 1510

@ndates, It is not bad! You should hear from us within the next few weeks. Completing the SRAR will absolutely speed up the response time.

Good luck,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

My sons buttons just changed! He applied on 10/25 to Dietrich School of Arts and Science for Economics. 1410 SAT 4.0 GPA

My son was deferred from engineering but just emailed to change his intended major to “pre-information science” in arts and science. Does anyone know how quickly they reassess for another major. He will call this week and see if got the email etc.

@milgymfam Do you mind sharing her stats?

She she is homeschooled, and has a 31 ACT, 3.98 UW, 48 DE credits (4.0).

@goteam2 Do you mind sharing his stats?

My daughter just received her scholarship info today; $10K per year. We are very grateful but were hoping for more. I My question, perhaps for @hailtopitt1787, is if she should regard this as final, or if these awards are ever revised or augmented during the admissions process. Thank you.

@proudpapaof2 was it a scholarship for what she is going for (departmental) or one from the University? I’m wondering if she had to apply for it or if it was offered.

My gpa has gone up slightly since being admitted to Pitt, should I try to update my application for scholarship/honors college? @hailtopitt1787

@jdkpa21 This was a University-offered scholarship.

@proudpapaof2, Congratulations to your daughter! Our scholarship process is competitive because we get a lot of really accomplished applicants. Typically, the scholarship offered is final. The exception would be if there is some kind of substantial academic change (the best example would be new test scores). In that situation, your daughter can contact our office to request that she be reviewed again by the Scholarship Committee for a potential increase. However, situations where a scholarship is increased are quite rare.

I encourage your daughter to look into outside scholarships at Fastweb and College Board if she is not already doing so. Additionally, she will be able to access PittFund$Me in the spring - which is our internal database for additional scholarship money (mainly from individual academic programs and from endowments). These scholarships are for current students, rather than incoming freshmen, but they can give her an idea what else is available should she commit to Pitt.

Finally, in the spring (late January/early February) the financial aid notification letters will start going out to anyone who has filled out the FAFSA form.

@PAgrad2019, Yes! I would encourage you to contact your territory manager and let them know about your GPA change. You can find the contact information for your territory manager here: https://oafa.pitt.edu/esm_directory.php

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you so much for your reply. I’m sure I speak for others when I write that it’s great to receive information like this from someone like you on this forum. I must confess some degree of disappointment in this particular news, however, as Pitt was one of her top choices and I thought (and continue to think) the University would be a very good fit for her. I have no doubt Pitt receives applications from all kinds of incredibly talented kids; it’s humbling to read these threads and learn about the accomplishments of so many.

My expectations were formed upon reading some of the posts here and finding out what others with similar stats had reported to receive from the University. Based upon those reports, I think both of us were grateful yet, honestly, somewhat disappointed. Strangely, we probably would have regarded the scholarship info in a very positive way had we not been able to make these comparisons. I was hoping that the award might not be as immutable as you describe in your post, but I very much appreciate the information.

Again, I thank you and I wish all the best to everyone here. Good luck to all with your applications and decisions!

@hailtopitt1787

Hi! I don’t know if I should be worried about this. I sent my transcripts in October, I applied on Nov. 4th through the Common App and the application was received, and I also completed Pitt’s SRAR on Nov. 7th. However, I received a letter in the mail that my transcript was not received even though it was sent and the SRAR was completed on Pitt on Nov. 7th. It has been a week since the SRAR was sent on Pitt and it has not updated on my.pitt.edu. It still says application is incomplete.

Should I be worried at all?

I would just recommend that you call our office (we are open 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. M-F) and ask one of our processors to take a look and make sure everything was received!

You can find your assigned admissions processor here: http://oafa.pitt.edu/processors/

heard back in exactly 3 weeks and super excited to say I got in!!! Does anyone know if there is a facebook group yet for admitted students?

Congrats, @silver215!

There is a Facebook group! It is called “Pitt Class of 2023.” It’s a closed group and you will be asked to share your applicant ID (the one that is a string of numbers with an “A” in front) in order to gain access to the group. We do that because we want to make sure it truly is a space just for admitted students to get to know each other - no spam bots, etc. This group is moderated by Pitt Admissions and Student Affairs.

If it doesn’t pop right up in your search on Facebook, there is a link to it on this webpage: https://oafa.pitt.edu/explore/social-media/
