University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

@allieandjoe that’s horrible about PSU’s board!! I haven’t been there because my daughter wasn’t interested in Penn State. I have seen some mean comments going back and forth on a couple of boards though but the group as a whole shut them down and turned the tone back to positive. Our kids are under so much pressure - they don’t need us to add to it by acting immaturely. We should be acting as role models for civil behavior, not attacking each other.

Best of luck to you and your child!

@hailtopitt1787 I got my acceptance letter 11/29 but have not received word about any merit aid. Is it still possible that I’ll get something or has too much time passed?

Hi @froshusa,

Merit notifications will be going out until March 1 so there is still time.

Good luck,

Hi @hailtopitt1787 ,

Do you know if me getting a scholarship award right now excludes me from higher ones, such as Chancellor’s scholarship? I received an academic scholarship for 5k per year last week, but I’m wondering, am I still eligible for scholarships of higher value?

@ishmob111 , If you don’t mind my asking, did you get a similar scholarship offer in the mail as well?

Hi @FLtitan1217

Congrats on your scholarship! Students will be invited to interview for the Chancellor’s Scholarship after Pitt Honors admission notifications go out in January. Your $5k award does not disqualify you from being invited to interview for the Chancellor’s.

Good luck!

Hello @hailtopitt1787
I applied to Pitt on October 17th and was asked for updated SAT Scores, which I sent. Any idea as to when I should be hearing back or will it take another 3-4 weeks per usual to hear back?

Has anyone been accepted or heard of an acceptance coming on a Saturday?

Hello @hew100,

It shouldn’t take much longer to receive your decision but please note that our office will be closing for winter recess at the end of this week. We will be back on January 2 so you can probably expect a response by early January.

Good luck!

Hello @hailtopitt1787 is it true that to be considered for the Pittsburgh campus for the school of nursing you must have a 1310 or above SAT?

Hi @G_2019LAG,

This is not true. The Admissions Committee takes a holistic approach to make decisions, which means they consider other factors such as Honors, AP, GPA, and the Short-Answer Questions along with SAT/ACT scores. If you are looking at the class profile, you get a general idea of the average SAT/ACT scores but that does not mean that students outside of that range will not be accepted.

I hope this helps!

I was accepted last week and I’ve received an acceptance letter but nothing about scholarships. Does that information come in a separate letter? Or would it have been with my acceptance?

So you received a letter but no email first? That makes me feel better. We called admissions and they said the letter was on its way. And we were nervous that might mean a rejection. How did other people receive their acceptances? She applied on 11/1.

My D applied on October 1. We called the OAFA and were told that a letter would come in the mail not via email. Are both acceptance is in rejections being sent via regular mail? Thank you ?

November 1st actually

November 1st actually

Twins were accepted - applied end of Nov, received notification yesterday.
Son- SAT 1530 (Interested in PharmD)
Daughter- SAT 1460 (school of nursing)
Both have strong essays and good ECs, especially daughter.
Hopefully both will get merits and aids since we are OOS

All - there is now a Pitt Parents Class of 2023 Facebook page. Come on over!

@capemama4 My daughter got a letter in the mail (acceptance), no email. So a letter in the mail can be good news! ?

Hi @hailtopitt1787,
My daughter was accepted to UPJ, however, her first choice was the main campus. She applied to the School of Nursing. Is there any way for her to appeal that decision to be reconsidered for the main campus? Is there a process to follow? We realize the SON is very competitive, so we were wondering if that may have played into the decision of which campus she was offered? If there were any chance of her getting into the main campus would an alternative major have been offered or suggested? Any advice would be welcome! Thanks in advance!

Hi @rido6138

She can certainly write a letter expressing why she should be reconsidered. Use this link to get in contact with the appropriate enrollment manager: https://oafa.pitt.edu/esm_directory.php

UPJ is a great campus! I will add that some students go through their first year at a regional and then transfer to the main campus. Her academic advisor at UPJ will be able to help with this process if she chooses to take that route.

Our offices are now closed for winter recess so she can get in contact with one our representatives on or after January 2.

I hope this helps!
