I just received my acceptance e-mail which included an adorable video but not much else. How long until I can expect the official letter of my admission and such?
@hailtopitt1787 I was invited to participate in the pink panther mentor program, is this the only mentor program for prospective students? Either way still excited to get this opportunity!!
@hailtopitt1787 thank you! I appreciate the response. Happy holidays!
@julianharvey ,
Congratulations!!, My D received letter in mail in day or two after she received video email.
@hailtopitt1787 I have a problem. I would like to go to one of the admitted students day (I was admitted on 10/29) But I haven’t received my letter for merit scholarship. PITT is one of 3 I am considering but I cant make straight comparisons without knowing the cost of college. Pitt is about 450 miles from the house and I would like to plan to take off school for these days, but hard not knowing the last of the information. Is there anyway to get this info? I know they will all go by 1 March, But I need to make decisions before then. Thanks! J
My daughter got a letter in the mail telling her she is accepted to Pitt Katz business college but her online portal has never changed and she didn’t get the email either (she was kind of looking forward to seeing the video everyone talks about but she hasn’t gotten it!). It has been a week since she got the letter in the mail so we gave it plenty of time. Not sure what happened. Haha. But she doesn’t care as long as she got in. Haha!
Hi @ZeeMeZeeYou
I completely understand. Unfortunately, I am not able to provide any additional information on merit awards. Like you stated, those awarded will be notified on or before March 1. We do want you to attend one of our Admitted Student Days though, so I encourage you to use the sites below to guide you on estimated costs in the meantime: https://npc.collegeboard.org/student/app/pitt
https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/costs/
Additionally, there are Admitted Student Days after March 1, so you can sign-up for one of the later ones. By that time you should know if you received an award or not.
I really hope this helps guide your decision and Happy Holidays!

My son received a $40,000 dollar scholarship, which is great, but as an out of state student, it is still more than we could pay. His sister goes to Pitt with a full tuition scholarship. Does Pitt consider financial aid appeals?
In October Pitt requested a senior sat and mid year grades. My daughter took the sat beginning of January. We where ready to wait until February for a decision either way but today she got a letter of acceptance… what a great Xmas present…thank you Pitt !
*into business major
Sorry d took sat beginning of December and we heard via mail today
@hailtopitt1787 Thanks for the info but doesn’t help. But Time is finite, Yours is a great institution, but will have to make the decision of the top three based on all the info on the table, Im sure you understand just as I understand what you are saying. We have, or will have by Jan 31 the info back on the one schools honors, and the others residential college app…we already have the merit aid answers. We have a registered day planned to go to PITT in conjunction with the other two schools admitted days. We have a plan thats ready to go at a moments notice, but since PITT is a days drive from our house and a days drive to the next closest school for admitting day, we cant spend 3 days without all the info. Its not you guys, you have your procedures and they have worked for years. Its us, we just have to be rational about how we spend our time in money in these visits. So we can wait about a month till Jan 31st, maybe it will be here by then. Thanks!
@ZeeMeZeeYou You should have enough information in last year’s thread to determine likely merit. I think it’s pretty predictable, and you should not expect ‘more’ than what you see from last year, since merit has been getting tough. Pitt values ‘interest’. If you haven’t visited, expect even less. Two years ago my D with a 4.0UW and a 34 ACT received a $10K award, just for comparison’s sake. She visited twice. Some with similar stats did receive $15K, but that was also two years ago, as I mentioned.
what are my chances with pitt applied to the school of computing and information
SAT: 1100
GPA: 4.16
Rank: 25/341 (Top 7%)
Unweighted GPA: 3.929
Extra-curriculars:
Clubs: Global Minds, Church Youth Group, French Club, Science Club, Math League
@hailtopitt1787 My D just received a letter from financial aid with a small diversity scholarship (The Cathedral of Learning Achievement Scholarship). Does this represent her entire scholarship amount or is it possible that she will receive more from other Pitt scholarships (University Scholarships?). If so would they come in different letters? Thanks in advance.
@bigmacbeth Thanks for the info, I was aware of all that, but where it pertains to making an actual decision, OR, deciding whether to make an 900 mile round trip (in February) Its just not prudent to take someones word for it. You have to go with the info the school gives you and base your decisions on that. Not to put too fine a point on it either, but would also have to take into account that the 14 other schools have all made their offers, 11 of them coming in AFTER PITTs decision. These are big decisions and everything matters.
@ZeeMeZeeYou Life is full of choices. I wouldn’t say you should make a decision based on someone else’s word. It’s many peoples’ words. It’s data. Is there is something so special about your child that they can’t be compared to the population of those other high-stat admits? This situation is not a unique one.
Our second visit was arranged on almost a moment’s notice because D17 was invited back by Pitt. It was an inconvenience, to be sure, but we made arrangements and did it. We live over 462 miles away. We may have groused about it to ourselves, but we did it because it was important to our D17. She ended up attending elsewhere, but I don’t regret taking a shot and blowing a couple days. Life is full of choices. D20 is looking at Pitt now, as well. I’m sure we will have to make similar choices with her. But, since Pitt merit seems to be drying up, the decision may be easier.
FWIW, D17’s award email came ON 1/31. Good luck making a choice.
@hailtopitt1787 I applied Nov 1 and got accepted on Thanksgiving (which was awesome! H2P!) but I have not received anything financially. Not only talking about scholarships but I haven’t even received general information about cost for the 2019-2020 year. The only communication I got last was my acceptance letter. Is this something I should be worried about? Is there any way online that I can view my personal financial information through myPitt?
What do you all predict financial wise I could receive?
