University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

@MdgmMom You are welcome… Im not sure why @hailtopitt1787 never told us that. Seems like an important detail to leave out… I didnt mind not knowing till March 1, but not telling us we wouldnt be contacted AT ALL if we werent given any merit, was just, frankly, a rather blatant omission. But oh well. If we couldve just got 10K she wouldve accepted in a second. But 45K (we are out of state) is just a bit much. Great school though.

@ZeeMeZeeYou, it seems okay to me that they only contact you if they’re offering merit aid because there are so many students—many more who don’t get merit than do. I don’t think any college writes to tell you that you’re not getting merit aid unless maybe there was a separate application.

I agree with @MdgmMom I wouldn’t expect to be contacted if $0 merit. No school does that. @ZeeMeZeeYou You shouldn’t have assumed.

@hailtopitt1787 hello, if I intend on joining PITT ROTC is that something I should let admissions know somehow?

does anyone know when the next batch of decisions come out? (I submitted my app on 12/31/18)

@allieandjoe Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard, I didnt ““assume””… lets look at this from a standpoint of effort… I they have to answer the phone and emails,OR they could simply send out an email that says you didnt get merit… From a standpoint of effort on PITTS part is less work than answering random phone calls… And lets be super honest here… NO WHERE did it say you wouldnt be contacted up or down, PITT could simply have inserted a line of text and we wouldnt have to have guessed anything. That doesnt even count the times I inquired one here about when we are contacted… so if we take that all in total it would be much less work to simply say (on the app) if you dont get aid we wont contact you, OR Hail to PITT 1787 couldve said that. Instead that question was simply ignored. So its how they dealt with it, that caused the confusion. My way is simply much easier and less effort for them.

@allieandjoe I suppose if we take your assumption to its logical conclusion why even send a decision to people that arent accepted? Now that would really save some time…

Hi @college1919,

You do not need to inform us. You can express interest in your application but it’s not a requirement.

Hi @collegeIZrubbish, applications take about 4-6 weeks to process so you can expect a response a little bit closer to the end of the month. Good luck!

@hailtopitt1787 Any idea when PittHonors accepted students would be contacted if chosen to apply for Chancellor’s scholarship?

Hi @divol19

Interview notifications will be sent in early-February and interviews will take place throughout the month of March. Only those candidates invited to the on-campus interviews will be notified.

Good luck!

@hailtopitt1787 I am just curious, how many Chancellor scholarships are awarded (in a year), and around how many are invited to interview?

Hi @scholarme,

No more than 80 students will be invited to interview and out of those 80, approximately about 10-12 will be selected to receive a scholarship.

Good luck!

@hailtopitt1787 Pitt Honors web site mentions, ‘We accept about 400 incoming students each year.’ I am curious if the total Honors offered this year is still in that range because of the new selection process.

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you!

Hello @worriedcat,

Yes, this is still accurate. Pitt Honors was definitely more competitive this year, but they are likely to still only admit between 300-400 students.

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you for your quick response!

Hi @hailtopitt1787,
When would UPitt GAP interview notification come out? GAP Portal FAQ says by mid-Feb, however I also read elsewhere that if selected for interview, the notification would come within 2 to 4 weeks of GAP apps submission.

Hi @CurleyFries

The notification should come 2-4 weeks after being admitted.

Good luck!
