University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

D declined Pitt this weekend. No merit was offered, and the price was more than 14k higher than TCNJ (in-state), Rutgers, UNH, UDel, UVM and Binghamton, which offered us much better value. As I posted a while back, an applicant needs to be above a 1480 SAT to be competitive for merit at Pitt.

@NJmaofthree yes, please update using the SRAR. It is best to enter the mid-year grades as the committee has requested instead of waiting until the end of the course. You could certainly update the grade at the end of the year, but I am assuming by that time you should know if you were admitted or not. I hope this helps!

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you for the response! The question really is how to do it on the SRAR. The senior courses are listed as ‘IP’ right now. Does the IP get replaced with the mid-year grade even for full year courses? Or is there another way to add mid-year grades onto the SRAR form? Thanks again!

@NJmaofthree yes, the IP should be replaced with the mid-year grade even for full-year courses.

Thank you so much for clarifying!

I sent in my mid year grades about 2 Weeks ago because I was asked to in a letter from pitt, and am still waiting for a decision. Is there a way to check my application status? I went into the “My Pitt” portal and clicked the check my application link and all it did was bring up a page that was pretty much blank.

Hi @greencarrot01, please contact your admissions processor to check on your status: https://oafa.pitt.edu/processors/

I didn’t update my srar I just had my counselor send in my mid year grades about 2 weeks ago. Is that ok?

@BetaBaggins, I asked this awhile back and @hailtopitt1787 said it was only necessary to send midyear grades if admissions requests it. If you did get a request for mid-year grades, the SRAR seems to be the preferred method.

@BetaBaggins, that should be okay but I suggest you also contact your processor to verify they received them: https://oafa.pitt.edu/processors/

You should also update your SRAR though because that is our preferred method.

@NJmaofthree S got his first semester grades on Monday and we updated his SRAR last night. We also had difficulty trying to figure out what to do with his one full year course. Nothing seemed to work right. Our school doesn’t combine grades until the end of the year so he has three separate grades for that course: one for each quarter and one for his midterm exam. We just couldn’f figure out how to put three grades in for one course and finally just left it as IP. Pitt will do what they will do. Fortunately in his case, he only had only one full year course - all the rest are semester long and he had final grades for those.

Even though Pitt was originally S’s first choice, it dropped down after it was the only school that didn’t accept him upfront. This really irks my older D who is currently a junior at Pitt and really wants him there. Even if accepted, I think my S is leaning elsewhere now, which is why we are not stressing about this too much. If it was still my S’s first choice I think I would have him send an email to admissions explaining the difficulty in updating the SRAR and would include the grades we couldn’t input.

If we have received our financial aid package and merit aid was not included, am I right to assume that I will not be receiving any?

@cllp2023, I believe the Pitt rep said you could still get merit aid up until March, and that your financial package will be updated if you do.

Thanks! I tried scrolling back to find the answer. I guess it’s a waiting game, I’m not super pleased with the package I was offered so far.

Will I get an email when Pitt has made an admissions decision for my application? It says complete on the MyPitt passport, and its been around 3 weeks since it has been sent. Thanks!

@rshrawg, Response time is between 4-8 weeks. My daughter got her acceptance in the regular mail, but I believe some students get electronic notifications.

@rshrawg -was that your original application or did you have to submit 1st semester grades?

It was my original application so I haven’t submitted first semester grades, I applied for honors by the Jan. 15 deadline as well.

Has anyone, who was requested to send in updated grades, received any news? Or indications like the buttons changing in the pitt passport portal? I updated my grades on 1-29-19 and, so far, nothing has changed on my portal?

@SpartanAzure -updated on 1/25 and nothing has changed
