University of Pittsburgh Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

Just got rejected and offered admission to the greensburg campus??

@kordeination I am sorry to hear that. Do you have other options? Do you mind posting your stats?

I just noticed that freshman move-in day is on Monday (?!), August 19, the first day of Welcome Week. Most other colleges have move-in on a Friday or weekend day. This will be extremely difficult for us because I’m a teacher and the 19th is my first day of school - I’m not allowed to take off!!! ???. Does anyone know if there will be an early (Sunday) move-in option?? @hailtopitt1787?

@hailtopitt1787 what are the chances someone is notified acceptance from waitlist before May 1, (so like April).

Usually there are three move in days, Monday through Wednesday. Pitt has a week of orientation activities before classes start.

You might be able to contact housing to see if she could move in on Sunday. I think band members move in early, so there should be some students there.

@marniefaerie When my D was a freshman a couple years ago, there was an option to do a two day mini orientation session with different focuses (arts, sports, leadership, etc). Anyone could sign up for them. They moved in on the Saturday for these. We had her do it just so she could move in early on the weekend. For sophomore and junior years she signed up to volunteer for freshman orientation and got early move in because of that.

@marniefaerie please contact our Arrival Survival team to see if you can arrange to move-in on a different day. 412-648-2131 or arrival@bc.pitt.edu

@G_2019LAG waitlisted students are contacted after May 1 but before June 1 so it is probably very unlikely that you would be contacted in April.

My daughter is down to two schools for nursing…we will be visiting Pitt (for the second time) this Saturday, and there is a very good chance she will become a Pitt Panther this weekend! I’m so excited for her!! Pitt is perfect for her!!

So, paid the Enrollment fee this morning, do we get a separate email for housing - I can’t find anything about where to go to pay the housing deposit.

You should get a housing packet in the mail in a few weeks.

My daughter attended Admitted Student Day yesterday and committed to Pitt! So excited ahe will be attending one of the best nursing programs in the country! Hail to Pitt!

I was admitted to UPitt- Bradford(second choice). I was wondering how easy/what the requirements would be to transfer to the main campus?

I still have not gotten my decision back. I applied February 4th and Mid-Year was sent February 13th.

@hailtopitt1787 my D is waiting on the official indication of valedictorian status at a Pgh public school, her school counselor told us about the Pgh public scholars scholarship that will cover tuition (we receive a pell) do you have any info on this scholarship or when it may be reflected on her account?

Here is some information:

https://www.pittwire.pitt.edu/news/new-program-supports

I believe valedictorians and salutatorians at PGH public schools will qualify for this $2,000 scholarship.

Full Pell grant will be $6,195, there is also a new Pell match program Pitt started. Full PHEAA grant should be about $3,772.

I assume the remaining aid might include a subsidized loan, and maybe work study?

Did you receive the financial aid award yet?

Did you submit FAFSA and PHEAA application?

@mommdc from our understanding from discussions with our school counselor, students receive $2000 unless they are pell grant recipients, in that case they are awarded full financial need. That being said, official notice of valedictorian/salutatorian status isn’t updated until 3rd period end (this week) so I was just curious as to when the award would be displayed through the portal. I’m not sure entirely how it is allotted, we have a few grants and a smaller scholarship and then loans. I was curious as to if we wouldn’t have to take out the loans based on this award.

Hi @cllp2023

Sorry for my late response on this but please review our PPS FAQ: https://oafa.pitt.edu/pps-faqs/
Most of your questions are answered on here, if you have additional questions let me know.

Yes, I’m not sure if full financial need will include work study and subsidized loan in that case.

There should be preliminary FA award coming out, and loans might need to be accepted by May/June. But you can cancel loans through the school up to 4 months after disbursement, if necessary.

Loans can be reduced, declined, or accepted in the student FA portal.

Once the housing assignment comes out in summer, and new tuition rates come out in July, the aid should adjust to the final numbers.
