We had completed and submitted everything they requested months ago. It was not incomplete.
I hope not getting the email isn’t a bad thing
@neutopschool I did complete all the requirements but they added a new requirement…maybe bcause im international idk but i havent received a acceptance yet either
@lemondrop2 what was the other requirement? I’m an international and they only asked for the CSS Profile, a certificate of finances, and this other UofRichmond specific certificate of finances.
Richmond was always daughter’s top choice. You just never know your chances at a private with no in state tilt, like UVA and W & M’s 65/35 IS/OOS. Also needed to see FA package. Still waiting on the usual suspects being in state (UVA, William & Mary, accepted at Tech and JMU) and multiple OOS. Now that she’s been accepted at Richmond she seems to be all in. During her college visits, the larger schools started to slip (she wants smaller class size, get to know professors and vice versa, etc).
Biggest downside for her; too close to dad. I told her I understand completely and there’s always graduate school. She’s started to explore Richmond more on her own and with friends and that makes her feel better as well. Some of the biggest upsides; our first tour guide was on a similar career path my daughter has thought out, you can have a car freshman year, she really liked the schools dining facilities, dorms were nice (and have a/c; surprising how many schools we visited that did not), close to a mid-sized city (obviously, Richmond), 90 minutes to D.C. (where all the attractions are free), 60 minutes to Williamsburg, 2 hours to VA Beach, 90 minutes from the mountains). There is a lot you can either do or get to in 2 hours or less from Richmond.
Everyone should know early next week, but for what it’s worth, her stats were; 1390 SAT, 3.86 GPA UW, 4.16 GPA W, 7 AP’s (Chem, Calc, Physics, Bio, Psych, Eng Lit, Eng Comp). UVA, W & M, and multiple other schools specifically pointed out during our visits they look for all, or a combination of, Chem, Calc and Physics. Class rigor definitely offsets a slight dip in GPA. Some of her classmates took fluff AP courses.
I don’t know if we got the FA package because we had it in so early. My only child, so I erred on the side of caution. I thought all FA stuff was required much earlier than it actually was. Had everything turned in by 11/30/16. Richmond wanted the FAFSA (I think, maybe not), definitely the CSS Profile, IDOC and the Non-Custodial Profile (NCP). I had to drive over to clear up the NCP. For some reason they did not have as late as mid-February even though turned in by 11/30. Went through quite a battle to get her mom to complete the paperwork. Probably better I got it done early.
I don’t know if it’s commonly known, or just in state, but Richmond, if you make less than $60,000.00 (I think), the first two years are essentially no cost. Richmond has one of the biggest per student endowments in the country. For comparison, Michigan State with 50,000 students has an endowment of 2.25 billion dollars. Richmond, with a student body of about 4,000 students, has a 2.25 billion endowment.
Sorry some of you have to wait a little longer. Hope you all get good news.
@cloudysmom - Did you already get your D’s financial aid package? I wonder if my D’s is in the mail. She applied RD but was accepted a few weeks ago since she was a Richmond Scholars finalist who didn’t move on. I’m anxious to see if it will be affordable.
@jcwjnw99 - Thanks for the words of encouragement. D is pretty discouraged after getting into two great LACs on Friday but not being able to afford them. I’m hoping Richmond comes through!
@elena13 If your daughter was a Richmond Scholars finalist, I’m assuming she was accepted. If that’s the case, I did double check the application link to check on my daughter’s application and saw they weren’t showing the NCP.
Richmond then sent an email a few weeks ago informing me they needed the NCP (nice they stayed on top of that). Once I drive out there (being 20 minutes away sure helps) it took them 30 seconds to refresh and get the form. If all you’re FA paperwork is in you should get the FA documents shortly.
I don’t want to go into too much detail about my daughter’s FA, but the other in state schools, UVA, W & M, JMU will give my daughter no aid, none. I am over the income threshold (not sure of the threshold, but I think it is $60,000.00; you could google it, it was in a press release a year or two ago) for the no cost two years but Richmond’s FA aid will allow my daughter to attend for less than it would cost for her to attend UVA or W & M and slightly more than JMU.
I do understand how hard it is to watch your child work hard and then possibly have to tell her she can’t attend a school because of the cost. She applied only to in state or need blind private schools to increase the likelihood of a good offer. Ended up applying to 14 schools to spread the risk and increase chance of at least one good FA offer.
On another note, this was a good year for all the applicants. Richmond going to offer EA next year. That would have made it that much harder due to the likely spike in applications. Richmond may fill most of their class next year with EA, ED1 and ED2.
I just checked the $60,000 income subject. It does exist but only for Virginia residents (schools really need to take another look at this in state, out of state issue). In any case, Richmond does appear to be truly need blind. If someone needs aid and they are OOS, I think Richmond will come through for them.
Hey guys!! I just received my big package in the mail today!!
This is honestly the best surprise of the week and I’m ECSTATIC!
Does anyone have a GROUPME group for this? If so, please PM it to me or something.
Thanks!
Could you please PM it to me or something
Sorry…I don’t know why the “could you” got deleted…
@yowifi23 congratulations! how did you get in on a Sunday?
@yowifi23 did it come today or yesterday? Maybe they did send it priority because priority runs on Sunday (or at least around here it does!).
Also where do you live?
@camwow Thank you!
I haven’t checked my mailbox since Friday, so the letter probably arrived either Friday evening or Saturday.
while we are waiting… want to chance me? haha sorry for annoying you all\

@jcwjnw99 - thanks for the helpful info. That is great for the in-state people. I actually typed too fast and was incorrect about Richmond scholars. She was a semi-finalist but did get her acceptance early. Just waiting to find out about FA.
@elena13 It took about 10 days to get the aid but because my ex was not filling out this long form they gave him. TI got after him & got him to get it done. The aid wasn’t as good as I would have liked due to his income. I make $35k so certainly thought I would do better. He makes $85k and they add them together. They offered us $30k in grants & $5500 loans. Thankfully I have patents who are willing to help with $21k so we just need $9k, but it will be hard. My ex screwed this up for us but he won’t help pay so I am really pissed. I am a realtor so get paid in larger amounts or there would be no way to do this. I must sell a few more houses asap, so if you know anyone wanting to move to Charleston, SC, let me know, lol!
I hear you @cloudysmom. My ex does support D now but says she is completely on her own for college. So, I’m thinking things won’t work out with the financial aid but I guess we’ll see.
@cloudysmom ; @elena13 You might want to check the internet for appealing college FA. I’ve read some articles on the subject just to educate myself if needed. I don’t think it will help in my case but I’m considering it. If there are mitigating circumstances (like her dad; in the same boat with my daughter’s mother, she just added to my income with no hope of her contributing a dime, I do earn more than her mother, just need to get creative), you might want to consider appealing. From what I’ve read, most colleges will consider it.
Good luck, this CSS profile thing was a huge pain, even more so because my ex just wasn’t doing it. He lost all his 1099’s & W2’s and hadn’t filed taxes since 2011. He is a huge mess, cost us $ and now won’t help pay, ugh. I hope it all works out better for you! I have spoken with several who said the FA was not ready when they received their acceptance so they seem a bit behind, but whenever I call them they are really on the ball, super friendly and helpful!
