My daughter is a freshman and they did this same process last year. There was plenty of housing. I wouldn’t rush to deposit. My daughter was admitted early, but we waited until March merit awards were announced (though she was set on attending anyway) and deposited/put in for housing at that time. Also, if your daughter ultimately decides to attend and finds a roommate in advance, housing priority is done by the earliest slot of both roommates, which is a second chance to get an earlier date/time.
For what it’s worth, I called our regional admissions rep about this housing app & deposit issue. She advised us to wait at least until March merit awards are announced so that we can make a more informed decision and not waste the deposit. She said this is what she feels most UofSC admitted students do. (Obviously that’s a generalization, but I assume she would have inside knowledge.) Generally, no one’s going to the bottom of the list and getting skunked out of a “good” dorm because the large majority don’t pay the deposits until March anyway. So she said not to worry over that. Also, as another poster said—if your student requests a roommate, the pair will go by the better housing app list number. Hope this info helps. It certainly made me feel better about holding off.
I agree. Although, even worse, UF had us put in a deposit months before we even got a decision! It wasn’t an expensive deposit, but still. What a racket!
I paid that $25 deposit this year too. Lol.
UT-Austin does that too! Shameful!
That is correct, but that doesn’t mean you should pay it now. You can pay it by May 1st and will still be considered for which ever dorm your daughter’s major puts her into.
since it was released on wednesday 2/17 last year does anyone think a round will come out today?
I was wondering the same thing. It looks like last year the portals were updated around 4-4:30 pm eastern.
anything? not for me
nothing here
accepted!!!
Congrats! Was this just released?!
Are these the EA deferrals?!
Waitlisted - this was my daughter’s only REACH, so not entirely surprised…
Waitlisted too… sure wish daughter would have applied EA. Does anyone have experience with waitlist at USC? Any movement ever? Congrats to those in!
Accepted from a December deferral.
Son was waitlisted after being deferred from an EA application.
Do you see the “waitlist response form” they have a link to? It just brings me back to the main application page with no form.
EDIT: nvm - the form appeared after a few minutes.
D just got accepted. Regular decision, applied 10/29
