Lots of deferrals here (including us). Are they just deferring everyone not admitted? Has anyone heard of rejections? Thinking the WL is going to be thousands long…
My son applied EA and was deferred and now waitlisted.
May I ask what his stats were?
3.9 gpa, 29 ACT, 4 yr varsity athlete, tons of service, all honors or AP
Seems like the waitlist data in the CDS is not accurate. Says for last year 11 waitlisted and then 8 admitted?… then for some other year it says 0 waitlisted and 99 admitted. Makes no sense.
I don’t know what’s going on. A bunch of really accomplished, well rounded kids are being deferred or at some schools rejected. Not sure what kids are supposed to do these days or what message is being sent. Concerning.
My son was waitlisted as well… Over 4.0 gpa, AP classes, Varsity Football captain, DECA President, works at Old Navy, I am like what the heck.
What is going on with the class of 22? Every school has had record applicant
That is ridculous… Seems to be on par with my son and he was waitlisted as well
My D22 applied EA and was deferred and now waitlisted too.

I have the believe they and many schools like USC will need to make good use of that waitlist this year. Do we really have 30-40% more kids going to college in 2022 or is everyone just applying to more schools than ever before. I’m guess the latter but I guess we’ll see. If I’m right, they will have a very low conversion rate on admits from EA and RD. For all of those higher stats kids I see here, you are doing great and should be proud of your accomplishments.
D accepted, OOS , RA. Scores submitted. Good luck!
Do they disclose where students are on the waitlist?
That is not how College waitlists work. It is not a straight lottery pull with kids on a numbered waiting list. They pull based on trying to rebalance priorities - instate V OOS, etc…
From here in SC, I think USC is being conservative on initial admissions offers not to protect yield, but to make sure they do not overenroll as other states have changed how they are awarding OOS Merit this year and other factors.
USC is also seeing the needs of serving instate students shift as more top students are seeing the value in USC. With state scholarships and new local scholarships along with other need based aid, many are able to reduce their undergrad costs significantly. USC is steps away from our statehouse and they hear from state legislators when their home community is not being served.
OOS…My son applied EA in Oct was deferred and now waitlisted. Honestly he’s ok with it and so are we. Top 3 are now-Univ of Pittsburgh (admitted with Merit), Ohio State (admitted) or Virginia Tech (pending EA). Congrats to all who were admitted!
I also think that more of the “go-to” schools as far being relatively easy admits and getting merit are seeing an overall uptick in the caliber of applicants they are receiving, so it’s getting harder and harder to be admitted - especially from out of state. It’s interesting to see the negative reactions when a kid doesn’t get the level of merit at a college that the parents believe they are entitled to.
My daughter graduated high school last year and we saw a lot of surprising results (kids with great stats being deferred or denied where they should have been easy admits or being offered summer starts at other places). It seems to be even more of a rollercoaster this year. There’s no guarantees anywhere anymore for admission or merit.

I totally agree. My son graduated last year and some of the results among he and his friends were surprising. Our friend who is a college counselor says this year is even more crazy with increased application numbers, mass deferrals and rejections of kids that would have been easy admits with merit two years ago. Makes me very worried for my D23 applying next year, as USC is on her list.
Exactly this, my daughter was accepted into Psychology and her GPA is low at 3.7. We are in-state though, so I believe this year USC is using more of those slots for in-state students. In that case, more OOS are being waitlisted, even though their scores are top notch.
waitlisted - OOS
no, colleges do not disclose. if you get off the waitlist, you will be informed
