same thing! was accepted to USC on 11/19 with merit - process felt great. tour was amazing too. was deferred from clemson, tour was mediocre, and though it was a dream school, it’s not for me. enrollment deposit was down for USC a few weeks ago!

I saw that the housing application opens today is this one of those schools where you need to get in early for housing? Can you register for housing without enrolling?

eh, maybe not. i’m in-state and was accepted mid-november with promise of merit but I doubt it’s going to be a lot. it’ll be an extra 3k/year on top of palmetto fellows, and I have very similar stats to your daughter

nope, you have to enroll first!

Have any admitted students/parents seen information regarding Admitted Students Days/Events? We toured in the Spring and it was a really great experience, but thinking that we will need to visit again before making the final decision.

Yes, it’s on the admitted student website. I believe there are 3: Feb, March, and April. My daughter registered for Feb.

I wonder if there’s an urgency. My oldest went to Maryland, and there was no rush for housing, but my other daughter is a Freshman at FSU, where everything is a damned race!

OOS daughter accepted into school of education. She was asked to apply to honors program, but received no merit, yet her friend who has almost exact same GPA and same classes who wasn’t asked to apply to honors, got 40K with no scores and my daughter sent in her 32ACT. Just goes to show this college process makes very little sense!

Absolutely no urgency. Mine committed in April. Got into her first choice housing just fine.

I am not surprised! This happened to my daughter last year. I found that merit money seemed to be based on scores for those who sent scores, and based on GPA for those who didn’t. So, even though my daughter’s GPA was very high, her merit was based on her scores, which were average. In the end, she did receive merit money in March. However, by then she had already moved on to other colleges, and hadn’t visited SC because with the absence of merit money, she wasn’t really considering it.

Thank you! I am relieved to hear this.

Exact same for my daughter. No merit but high GPA. We did submit test scores…I guess we should not have.

Were there any rejections, or was it purely Accepted or Deferred?

I am curious about this as well. I have only heard of deferrals. I am wondering if I should encourage my daughter to mentally move on from South Carolina. What are the chances of an acceptance in RD? I looked at posts from last year and it didn’t seem like many deferred kids were accepted. Many were WL in RD.

looked again at her portal, my daughter did not get merit. She has a 30 ACT and a 4.38 weighted GPA, so was hoping for something. How likely is it that we will get merit in March? It seems that she should qualify with her score and GPA. It will be a no go without merit.

I’m wondering about this too. We’re expecting to have all other decisions in by mid-February. I would hate to hold up committment through March for a school that is likely to give him a no. From past boards, doesn’t seem like he’s got a real shot at an acceptance in the RD round.

My DD was deferred under DMSB Marketing major. Should I have her switch her major to a non popular one in hopes of her getting off the waitlist in March? And will it be hard to transfer back into the business school/ change majors?

Curious if any TO accepted students received more than the “at least” $40,000. Based on my daughters gpa and class rank, we were hoping for more but then again she didn’t submit ACT.
