University of Virginia Class of 2021 EA Discussion Thread

You have until February something (15th?) to send them… So nope, not too late

Does UVA want our first quarter grades? I applied EA and got good grades my first quarter, but my first semester is not over until the end of January. Would it help in the admission process?

@doglover02 no, in the chat they had around nov 1 they said they wouldn’t consider them

@doglover02 @liloandstitch12 I sent in my first quarter grades for EA and also received the opposite information. I asked on the blog before and was told that they would use 1st quarter grades if received in time and asked through email as well and got a similar response. I attended the chats as well, but it was difficult for me to keep up with all the questions. Maybe you are right! A bit worried now. Hopefully we can get this cleared up by someone.

just found out I was deferred from Boston College, praying for better news this time around! Do you think we’ll hear back on 1/31 or has it historically been sooner?

@mtinchicago I think it’s usually around the 16th-20th. You can look at past forums to see.

chances??

1450 new sat (670 reading, 790 math applying as math major)

OOS

@okkkkkk this is not a chances thread

I applied to the college of arts and sciences with 31 act (35E 34R 29M 28S), could my score ruin my chances of getting in despite a strong application?

Just found this thread. I applied EA with 31 ACT (34 Eng, 33 Math, 31 Sci, 27 Read) decent GPA. Intended Chem major. I’m in state, but right now I’m 1/2 on early colleges and I’m kinda worried. Best of luck to y’all!!!

Is it much harder to get in for early action if you are OOS? I know for the University of Michigan almost all OOS applicants get deferred, so I was wondering if UVa is similar to that. Thanks!!!

They take who they take. Can’t speak for “hard/harder,” though there must be stats for that. There will always be more in-state acceptances as mandated by their charter, I believe.

Overall, isn’t the OOS acceptance something like 18-21%? If that is indeed the range, there is a consensus that the early applicant to colleges and universities (the strong early applicant) runs the higher chance of acceptance than those in the regular decision round.

Information provided by UVa showed that the admission standards for early applicants are not easier or harder than the regular round. Some early applicants do get deferred to a decision in the regular round. In that case, your mid-year grades may be a deciding factor.

There are many OTHER universities where the early round is either much easier or much harder than the regular admissions cycle.

Admission standards at UVA are harder for OOS as compared to IS.

Admission standards for EA are the same as RD. Unlike many binding ED schools, UVA does not give applicants a break for applying early.

Admission offer rates between EA and RD, however, will vary if the qualifications of the applicant pool varies between EA and RD. Last year the offer rates at EA were a little bit higher than at RD.

hey guys!! what other schools are you all applying to and have you heard back from any? I’m also applying to W&M, Richmond, and Wake Forest

Applied to UVa EA (I’m a Virginian); 34 ACT, 1490 new SAT. UVa is my #1 choice since I can get an excellent education at an in-state rate. Fingers crossed!

Daughter also applied to Michigan (accepted), Cornell, UNC, Duke, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Emory. Cornell ILR School has in-state tuition for us (it’s a private/public hybrid).

Any idea when decisions come out?

Decisions say by January 31st…who knows, maybe the 20th or 27th which is a Friday. I would rather have the review process done in UVAs time instead of rushing to get decisions out. Some feel that with Michigan getting approx 30,000 EA apps and giving decisions by December 24th resulted in many many deferreds because they just couldn’t thoroughly review all of the applications by that December 24th deadline. Think about that. UVA had approximately 16,000 EA apps (I don’t think I am incorrect) and they take a month longer. Perhaps a more holistic, thorough review. I would take that any day of the week!!! It will come soon enough

@hcmom65 I think you are right. I have heard the same thing about Michigan for a few years now. I think it’s best that they take their time.
