Just a few reminders:

-GPAs aren’t standardized and don’t provide the level of detail needed in a selective review process.

-Almost every first year student is undeclared at UVA. The only students who declare on their application are those studying Nursing and Kinesiology. This is covered in the application instructions and on the application.

-UVA is test-optional and our application review was always more concerned with understanding students’ stories, told through courses and grades on transcripts, recommendations, essays, and activities. We are not (and were not) driven by test scores.

DD24 has applied EA to College of Arts and Sciences. (OOS, 3.95 UW/4.3 W, SAT 1520:770M/720L) Fingers Crossed!
I am seeing this item on the Application Portal Status:

Optional InitialView or Vericant Interview

Anyone know what this is? Is there some place we need to request an interview?

Saw this on the UVA website:

Proficiency in English and English Language Assessments

We strongly encourage all applicants whose first language is not English to participate in an English language assessment, regardless of their secondary school education. Results from the following exams may be submitted and will be considered as part of the application review process:

  • The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency
  • The Duolingo English Test (DET)

Applicants may also submit the InitialView or Vericant evaluation. This is an opportunity to display your communication skills, reasoning abilities, and your enthusiasm for becoming a successful student at the University of Virginia. No other interviews are offered. Please contact InitialView or Vericant to schedule your evaluation.

InitialView/Vericant Deadlines:
Early Decision: November 1
Early Action: November 1
Regular Decision: January 5

Thanks @24olsoftball - I saw this under the international applicant section, so don’t think it applies to us. I guess its because she/we are bilingual at home.

What’s are the expected odds for OOS applying ED / EA / RD respectively? Are the odds pretty consistent between male and female applicants?

ED: 37/25%
EA: 27/12%
RD: 13/8%

19.4% admission rate for women
17.7% admission rate for men

These are overall numbers from the CDS. No breakdown by admissions round, but I don’t see any reason they would vary.

Any sense of what day UVA ED decisions are coming out? They seem to come out before 12/15 but it changes slightly every year?

They do it when they are done, which is why it varies slightly from year to year. They publish 12/15 as a date they are confident they can hit.
