Unofficial UNC Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@Gowolfpacks18 Where did they put you? My son got his first choice - Morrison super suite. So, he’s excited about it. I really thought that they’d put him in an apartment since he’s a junior transfer.

@NosyParent16 I am on the 3rd floor of Cobb in a room with two other ppl :frowning: spoke to housing over the phone and they said there is a waiting list for the apartments but it won’t hurt to sign up for the waiting list…turns out they do not reserve apartment spaces for transfers. Spoke to another person in housing earlier and they said next friday to the end of July we will have a chance to “swap” spaces and sign up for dorms that still need space or that someone cancelled…

Now that I know I may not get an apartment or private room I really like the idea of a super suite…seems more sanitary among other things. It’s good to hear your son got his first choice

Hey guys…I’m truly sorry for all the excessive posts but whenever something happens I always want to share in hopes that it will help someone else

If you do not like your housing assignment, PLEASE fill out a waitlist form on the housing website…I was just taken off the housing waitlist and offered a private room…I wasn’t expecting it and at first I felt discouraged about even signing up for the waiting list…but i did and it worked.

@Gowolfpacks18 Congrats!!

@NosyParent16 thanks!! I am so excited lol

Hey guys. I recently got accepted as a transfer, and I tried to pay for student parking. They, however, said I was a Freshman based on my credit hours. Now, Freshmen are only allowed to live in the dorms at Chapel Hill. Here is the problem . . . I just leased an apartment nearby, and I just learned that I am considered a freshman (they did not accept all of my credit hours from my other university). I can’t just throw away my contract for that lease, and I have a car up here. What do I do guys?

@makeit234 are you planning on appealing the credits that were not accepted?? Not sure if I am understanding correctly, but can you cancel the apartment lease??? If so, the only place that freshmen can have cars and also be considered living in a “dorm” is Granville towers…not sure if this helped or not

A lease is contracted, so I cannot cancel it. I do have the option to end the lease early (perhaps a month early), but that isn’t much good. I do think appealing the credits might be my only option. Do you think they would allow me to live in an apartment, considering that I still am a transfer student?

@makeit234 If I were you, I would be making a list of the credits I wanted to appeal…since you are a transfer student I would think that you could live in an apartment but I honestly don’t know since you are freshmen status to them…you should email or call UNC housing on Monday and ask about it…they are very helpful

Alright. Well, thanks for the replies! It’s nice to have someone to talk to about this.

@makeit234 The credit appeals process is very fast (at least for my son). You will need the official syllabus for each class though. My son’s appeal for his English class was denied. He could have submitted several essays in order to get out of it, but chose just to take the class instead.

As for living off campus, this is from the housing website:

Do I have to live on campus?

No. Transfer students may live on or off-campus.

Thank you so much for making this thread!
School: Hampton University in Hampton, VA
Year: Freshman
High School GPA: 3.8
Major: Biology Pre-Medicine
I hopefully can be in AFROTC
Extra curricular- any type of community service, Red Cross, Biology Club, Marching Band
I definitely want to go to UNC and embrace the full college experience on a large campus.

I would like to transfer also

Guys, I’m really worried. My high school transcript still hasn’t been received even though it was sent about a month ago. Do you think UNC will be able to receive the materials in time if the transcript is sent again by Monday?

Your fine deadline for materials at latest last year was like march. 28

Hey, I’m looking to transfer to UNC as a sophomore in the fall of 2017. I’ve been going through this thread to see my chances compared to last year. I’m not sure if anyone really checks this but would someone who was admitted last year mind giving me my chances? Thanks!

@WhiteShoes hey, we have a pretty similar profile. Did you ever end up getting accepted into KF?
