UoT vs. Queens vs. Western vs. McGill: BUSINESS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Hey there!

I am a student in the final year of high school. I have the intention to study economics/commerce or the social sciences in my undergraduate years.

If I decide to go with business, I would ultimately like to continue my education after an undergraduate degree in business schools in the U.S. (Wharton & Columbia is definitely a “dream school” that I would like to shoot for).

I would value a university that:

  1. allows for a better GPA so I can get into a Grad School (I heard UoT does “deflate grades” and that their commerce program in the undergrad years is not the best)
  2. a more supportive environment in terms of professors and student community
  • I do not really mind the size of the university

That being said, one that thing pushes me towards UoT is the city. It is about 2 hours away from where I live and is a much more vibrant and interesting city than Kingston or London. I would rather live there for the next four years than in Kingston… But then again I value my education more than just the city.

What are your thoughts for business undergrad schools mentioned above? And what about for social sciences?

I assume that you are Canadian. Also, all top business schools in the US and Canada require a minimum of two years of post bachelor’s work experience for admission to their MBA programs. McGill Desautels has a definite international emphasis in its business program. In terms of a “supportive environment”, Queen’s would be the best in Canada.

There are 2 other universities in Toronto besides U of T. York has an excellent reputation for its undergraduate business program. However, the admissions rate to its business program is 7%. Ryerson also has a business school as well as an excellent location in downtown Toronto.
