@seungyee22 really? why 0.1%?
New article up from dp
https://www.thedp.com/article/2018/12/penn-early-decision-applicant-plateau-ivy-league-dean-furda
“Furda added that Penn cannot physically accept more early decision students than it currently does.”
i think that means another acceptance rate of 18.5%
I was doing the math and that means at least 1316 students accepted if it is to stay at 18.5 (last year penn took 1312)
I’m so nervous. I’m an international student from Ecuador (bars are even lower) but I’m asking for aid and did not submit subject tests for Wharton (730 Math 1 oof). How bad do you think Penn weights subject tests? They do say on their webpage that not submitting them does not put you at a disadvantage but idk.
According to the 2017-2018 Common Data set, the SAT Subject Tests are “recommended”.
Not reporting SAT Subject Scores might be a disadvantage, but it depends on your intended major.
I applied ED to Penn (CAS) last year and got rejected. White, 1590 SAT, 800/800 SAT II, top 5% at huge public hs, intended bio/pre-med major, solid research and healthcare-oriented ECs. Now a freshman at Duke.
When I got rejected, I took it personally… until I realized that the admissions officers at Penn don’t really know me and aren’t in the position to judge me as a human being. They probably focused on some minutiae in my app… like an awkward sentence in an essay or some generic phrasing in a LoR. They only “know” you on paper, so who cares what they think?
I’m completely happy where I’m at right now. Doing well in my gen ed courses, found a great gf, and loving the campus culture here. Seriously, if I could travel back in time, I wouldn’t have even bothered to apply to Penn ED in the first place.
Tl;dr: If you get rejected, don’t take it personally because Penn admissions officers DON’T KNOW YOU. Also, realize that you don’t need Penn to be happy and successful. Become a world-changer and a success story, and it’ll be Penn’s loss for not taking you.
From Penn’s website: Penn is a need-blind institution for students that are citizens or permanent residents of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Our need-blind policy means that your ability to pay is not considered in your admission decision. Penn’s financial aid packages are awarded on the basis of financial need, not merit.
So it does not matter if we ask or do not ask for financial aid in the admissions process right? If you are a US, Canada, or Mexican citizen?
I don’t believe that aid factors into admissions.
Aid does not factor in admissions for US citizens, but admissions is NEED AWARE for internationals.
also i 100% agree you may think your ED choice is the perfect school for you, but you will quickly find out that rejected or not, you can be happy at any school your at as long as you make the most of it.
Random question, but I just checked naviance for my school, and i saw that generally 60 people apply and like 2 or maybe 3 people get in every year, which is far below the overall admissions rate of 8 percent. Does this mean that upenn just dislikes my school lmao
^I go to an ultra-competitive high school where most applicants apply with near perfect scores, so its probably not because we’re unqualified
Guys I cannot wait. I’m so nervous.
I asked for some hefty aid (I can only put 30k a year) and I’m international
I’m from an underrepresented country in SA so ivy league admitees barely need to get a 1400, but they can put full tuition. Does any current UPenn student know international students with aid at UPenn?
Portal has changed now. All the listings of the document are gone and are replaced by ED decision date/time.
@collegeboi2023 The acceptance rate isn’t going to stay the same; the number of applicants increased while (according to the Dean) the spots are staying the same. Thus, we can expect the acceptance rate to drop from 18.55% down to 18.45%. That’s a ridiculously small decrease, we should all consider ourselves lucky.
Huh. The portal change is neat
ah this is making me so scared
For me, the home page on the portal is still the same. Can someone confirm this?
