Upitt merit scholarship results 2022

I got my acceptance email on 10/5 after applying a week before, and still have not heard any financial information. I"m OOS, and no one else, that I know of, in my high school who has been accepted has heard back either. I’m getting very nervous that this means I won’t be getting any merit awards.

Received Merit letter yesterday. $10k/year OOS. Applied 10/16(?) accepted 10/30. SAT1500. 3.87 gpa (non-weighted), school does not rank

@carachel2 $10k in state SAT 1510, 4.08 Wgpa, 10 APs, school does not rank

@shbtup763 CONGRATS! I am always sincerely happy for the in-state kids who get great merit!! I hope you have an amazing four years at Pitt!

A little worried about merit scholarships… I am out of state with a 35 ACT but not quite top 5% ( top 6% haha) I know people have said they really only stick to what their website says but will my class rank disqualify me from merit scholarships? Do I still have a chance for Chancellors? I found out I was accepted last thursday through the mail but still have received no admissions video or any news through email. Any guess on merit and when I might hear would be appreciated.

@lwyant225 – sometime in the next 2-6 weeks I would predict! Very hard to know how it will turn out with the rank thing but we are all rooting for you!

@lwyant225
I don’t think it’s so much as the 1% difference in class rank but time that you applied. Did you apply before Dec 15th? But even if you did, I’ve found that they gave most of their big scholarships to those who applied early (Aug-Oct) although there is still a chance to get major scholarships if you applied before Dec 15th.

I have the same score and am OOS too but applied very early (admitted in Sept) and got full tuition; my school doesn’t rank. You will find out soon, hopefully!

@lwyant225 when did you apply?

@mclmom I applied november 29th

Have any PA students who were preselected for a Skype interview for the Nordenberg/Stamps Scholarships heard anything more back from the committee? I had my Skype interview in December and I know they won’t release semifinalist decisions until sometime this winter, but has anyone else heard any more specifics?

All - Good news for my D and our family today as well, as merit letter came in mail. $10K/yr, OOS, 33 ACT, 3.9+ uw gpa. Applied 11/1, app complete 11/14, admitted 11/29. My D answered two of three short answers (one at length). Still hope for those awaiting word! I had kind of starting to give up hope. Truly grateful to Pitt!

@JMS111 and @wifemomteacher : congratulations! We were relieved last week tuesday when my d’s merit award letter finally arrived, so I know how you feel!

@JMS111 : what state? we are in TX

Have Chancellor’s interviews started happening?

Thanks for the note and congrats DfwMom, and congrats to your family and D as well! We are in upper Midwest. Don’t bring as much geographic diversity to Pitt as your Texas D, but my guess is it probably helped that we are out of the PA/Northeast region, but who knows!

@DfwMomof2 Congrats to your D as well! These are exciting times for the kids! My S now has to make some tough decisions! The kids will all wind up where they’re meant to be!

Hey all you Pittsburgh Panther Lovers and Lurkers!!! Whooo Hoooo, letter came today -F-I-N-A-L-L-Y!!! My D earned herself $5,000 per year, $20,000 total. :slight_smile:

A couple of months ago, I would’ve been bummed out with that offer, but when I realized that an OOS student who is granted $10,000 still has a net price in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences that is still $1,562 more than an in-state student with nothing, I am thrilled! (This is assuming both would take the $5,500 Stafford Loan.) So now with an additional $5,000 off per year, it’s actually $6,562 less for my D than an OOS student who was given $10,000. Humble pie and gratitude is the lesson I learned here. Not saying we have the bottom line, lol…

Here are her stats:

In-State: PA ---- Pittsburgh!!!
SAT - 1500
GPA - 3.8 uw, 5.0 w (will most certainly be a 3.9 and a 5.1 after the grades are in - she earned Straight A’s!! Go Winky1’s Daughter!!)
6 AP classes (AP Chem 4, AP Environmental Science 4, AP Bio 5, AP Psych, AP Physics Mechanics, AP BC Calc)
12 Honors classes since 9th grade
Varsity Athlete - 3 year letter winner
Volunteers in a hospital and with an arts organization, and is a tutor
Applied August 21, Accepted September 14th (not that I write this all down on a calendar or anything!), Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, Neuroscience
Scholarship came today $5,000/per year.
Go Panthers!

@winky1 So funny you mention the gratitude aspect, we’ve come to the same conclusion that Pitt’s competitve sticker price (even for OOS) and good merit are still bringing it cheaper than in state schools that haven’t given my D18 merit yet and quite a bit less than the similarly ranked Public Universities that she was accepted to with what at first seemed like better merit. Congratulations, I’m SO happy you’ve finally received good news. :slight_smile:

Woohoo! Congrats @Winky1!!!

And looks like your D would bring in quite a few AP credits!

Huge congrats Winky1!!!

FWIW, our experience is the exact same as yours in terms of perspective - my D received $5K from her instate flagship, less than the 10K from Pitt she was awarded as an OOS applicant, but given that our instate COA is much lower than OOS COA, the $5K from instate is a larger discount (% wise) than the 10K from Pitt for us as OOS. The $5K would equate to a very large award for an OOS student hoping to get to the same COA at our state flagship, and I like your way of putting it in perspective.

Congrats again, Hail to Winky1’s D, and Hail to Pitt!!! :slight_smile:
