Upitt merit scholarship results 2022

Someone before posted stats usually of a 33 ACT and 3.9 in order to get $$ but it’s suppose to be a holistic approach too :/. Good luck !!

@bigbrewer299 - my daughter’s school doesn’t rank - she got good merit and honors college.

Hi @Winky1 just saw this from December. Got denied at ED1 school. Pitt still in the running, along with Wisconsin and Purdue. Did not get as much merit money from Pitt as I had hoped. Still waiting on next round of decisions. Did your D decide?

Hi there, @finnb ! No, she really can’t decide until she hears from the majority of her schools between mid March and early April. Deferred from ED school and from an EA school that surprised us. Their loss - Staight A’s this semester for her, and lots of great updates for those hesitating schools!! Had more time to apply to lots of merit scholarships at all of her schools that offered them (some just offer automatic merit and grants with the application). Honest, the waiting now is the hardest part. Pit is still a definite contender and the Honors visit day is coming up. That’ll be a good solid refresher.

When does Pitt financial aid packeges come from Pitt for those whoapplied for it? I can’t remember. Would be nice to have that before the honors visit day.

Best of luck!

My D and I are awaiting a potential scholarship- over 4.0, 1500 SAT, moderate extracurriculars. Do you think that she still has a shot? So happy for all who have gotten offers!

@pittpanther1654 I would think so? My D also had a 1500 and similiar GPA and was given a scholarship. We are OOS though. Not sure if you are? Also it depends on what school she applied to. My D applied to Dietrich.

^. Yes my friend just got 11k per yr today female

  • chem lower sat score 3.85. Exc LOR sports nhs etc
    Good luck !!

@DfwMomof2 we are in state. She applied to Swanson, so I’m sure that might impact it slightly. Congrats to your daughter!

Applied to Dietrich and still awaiting scholarship. I received the admission letter around mid January…

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been checking the “View Financial Aid” page of the Pitt Passport. Today, it finally showed my scholarship that I had received in November, but didn’t include any financial aid. Did this show up for anyone else? If so, did you have any indication of financial aid, or was it just a scholarship shown on the page?

Pitt is my OOS daughter’s first choice regardless of the other colleges she has not heard from yet. Even though we are OOS, her father’s family is from Pittsburgh/very involved at Pitt and she has had a love for Pitt since she was very young. She was admitted to honors & Swanson back in October but is on the border/has not received any merit from Pitt. She has received substantial merit at other comparable out of state flagships and private colleges that make the cost less than Pitt (not expecting FA from Pitt). I plan to submit the Pitt cost analysis but the current one online is based on this year’s COA and her packages from other schools are based on next year’s COA. My question is whether to wait for an updated Pitt cost analysis/March 1st when all merit has been given out or to send in (with other school’s COA for next year vs. Pitt for this year) now in hopes for some merit before it is all given out? Any advice appreciated - following the Pitt threads has been very helpful and love the supportive Pitt community we have experienced, both staff and families!

@oliviags22 Thank you for posting this! I just checked the Pitt Passport and there is a scholarship award posted. I have checked previously and there wasn’t anything there. We haven’t received official notification via mail yet, so it was a nice surprise! It looks like it is just scholarship and not financial aid. My understanding is the financial aid information based on FAFSA submittal should be coming in early February.

In past years, the tuition isn’t set until the state legislature finishes the yearly scramble and threat of lowering funding…followed by march to Harrisburg and then eventually funding restored, crisis averted and then a final tuition decided definitively - around July. If you have the analysis in hand, not waiting on other awards which would add to your case, I would submit now.

Thanks - I saw online that Pitt uses college board listed rates (Fall 2017) for comparison so seems like it is appropriate to use her awards on Fall 2017 rates for all schools - makes sense given state budgeting processes.

@class2022parent if you already have a few competitive offers in hand that make the COA lower than Pitt, I would submit now. They are quick with a response. Ds came back within 1.5 weeks I believe.

Make sure you update here. It will be helpful for others this year and for next year.

@oliviags22, Financial aid awarding has not quite started yet. You should hear from us in the next month or so.

Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

@carachel2 , is it a good idea for the parent to submit the cost analysis form or let the student do it? As a parent, I can explain things in a better way, would Pitt mind it ?
Thank you

@bsms2018 I have very limited experience since she is our one and only but we helped her word and construct the email on a word document first and then she sent it from her email. She was not wonderfully thrilled to be doing it because she thought it was “so extra” to be asking for more $$.

That attitude changed when she got the email 1.5 weeks later and we told her to just envision $8,000 cash (she got $2K more per year) sitting on the table.
B-)

It was good experience for her in learning to present a fair discussion point and to organize the information. We made her add everything up on the cost analysis form. I think it did indeed teach her the value of a dollar. For a 2 hour semi-painful task, she gained thousands.

I would have your student do it under your guidance. But I have no idea if it helps with outcomes or not. It certainly is another knotch in your student’s belt under the “adulting” category.

Thank you so much @carachel2

Would using COA comparison from Temple or PSU be best, or using private school specialty scholarship be more impactful? Or submit both?
