Very happy to report my daughter received her Merit Award today for $15,000 plus a Chancellor’s Nomination. This was an excrutiating wait but we are very happy with this award! Her stats 34 ACT, Top 2% of her class, 4.0 uw/4.55 wtd GPA, she answered all 3 Short Essays and has a lot of ECs and Leadership. Wishing the absolute best for those still waiting.
Wow, that’s great @AmyBeth68 !!! Congratulations to your daughter
I think this might’ve been brought up in previous years thread somwhere, but does the School to which one applies to have a bearing on the scholarship award? I believe it does.
@AmyBeth68 Congratulations! You have been the biggest cheerleader on the Pitt threads! So nice to see your D get one!
Good luck to everyone applying to the Chancellor’s! My D has 11 days to get it done.
@woods1234 It seems those in Dietrich have been awarded most of the scholarships with a few from Swanson.
Did anyone receive a scholarship notification at the same time as their acceptance materials or is that wishful thinking?
D hasn’t received anything yet in the mail. Email acceptance came yesterday but she only applied two weeks ago so it may be a wait on any potential scholarship. 35 ACT, 4.0 UW, in state.
@Kayak24, I didn’t realize you were instate! You should be getting a letter soon.
Also did your D apply for the Nordenberg and Stamps leadership scholarships for PA students?
@mommdc , she did not apply for either of those. I forget why (maybe bc we didn’t think she would be competitive against other kids with a ton of leadership experience).
@woods1234 My understanding is that students in each college are competing against each other for the merit aid. It’s likely that the average scores are a bit higher for Swanson than they are for Dietrich
@AmyBeth68 that is great news! Glad it came through for her. Still waiting here!
Trying to find info in thread about how long it takes from email acceptance to find out if you receive a scholarship. If you have any guess, please let me know. Congrats to everyone receiving admission and scholarships! Super exciting!!!
@wifemomteacher , I have thought about the same thing. It may depend, bc it’s possible the acceptance is separate from the meetings of the scholarship committee (which some have reported meet on Fridays). For anecdotal information purposes, my D (35 ACT, 4.0 UW) applied around Oct 30th, received email acceptance this week, paper acceptance in mail today and no merit offers to date. Her acceptance referenced that she would be reviewed for Scholarships and would hear separately.
Since the scholarship offers tend to go from highest scores on down, that will affect the timing of communication as well. A kid with a 36 ACT will likely hear sooner than a kid with a 34 ACT - but maybe not if the 36 kid applied weeks or months later than the kid with the 34.
With that said, I’d love to hear others’ experiences too as we all wait for (hopefully) good news.
Congrats to everyone receiving admission and scholarships! Super exciting!!!
My D has 34 ACT, 4.0 GPA,answered all 3 q’s, AP and few leaderships/voluntary. 10K per year scholarships.
Do we know what is the minimum criteria for Chancellor’s Scholarships.
@kk2018 33 ACT, high GPA to be considered. Same as for merit. It’s the essays though and how they reflect you that get you considered for Chancellor’s.
@Kayak24 Thank you so much! My S applied 10/31 and received email acceptance on Weds. No paper acceptance yet but we are OOS. Hope the news for everyone waiting is favorable for scholarships! Thanks again, will post if we hear anything more!
Was lurking this thread for a while. Thrilled to report D, OOS, 34ACT/1500SAT, 3.98 UW gpa, 9 AP classes. Visted Spring 2017 for info session/tour, answered all 3 questions, applied day apps opened (7/31):
Accepted Swanson Engineering, university honors, accepted Dental GAP, $20k/yr no Chancellors invite. We are so excited! Committing this weekend. It was the only college she applied to! H2P!!!
Congrats @momah22 You mean invited to Dental GAP or you already went through the interview and accepted with a guaranteed seat with Dental College?
Dental GAP doesn’t require an interview. Got her 2-page acceptance letter to it (from School of Dental Medicine) about a week-10 days after her Pitt acceptance letter. We put PITT on our visit list strictly bc they offered a path to dental school directly from undergrad and it was urban (as were her other choices.) We loved it when we visited! She had 2 other schools on her list but we got Dental GAP acceptance so soon, so she said, “It’s my #1 choice, do I need to apply to others?” So, we had mentally committed, just needed to know the financial situation and I’m relieved that scholarship + our 529 savings should cover undergrad so we can start saving for dental school.
She wanted Pitt so much, like others mentioned, she got the 3 short answer questions from the Facebook Live presentation in June (May?) and worked on her writing, revising until she was pleased w them. Cut and pasted into application on July 31 to be among the 1st in the queue. We thought she had to apply to Dietrich to get Dental GAP but this year, application seemed to allow you to mix/match any school and GAP program. She applied to Swanson for bioengineering.
Per my comments above, the letter she received outlined the GPA standards she needs to meet to keep the guarantee and also explained that she could enroll in dental early (after jr year) if certain criteria were met (90 credit hours, 23 on DAT, write letter to dental school explaining you want to start early.)
That’s very nice. Congrats again. Thanks for the details.
@AmyBeth68, Congratulations!!..wishing best with Chancellor scholarship…
