Upitt merit scholarship results 2022

@pickledginger , congratulations!!! Could you please share your son’s stats? Thank you

thanks, @AmyBeth68 and @bsms2018. His stats: 4.4W, 3.95 UW, top 5%, 7 APs, 1 H, 2 DEs, 1590 SAT. He has solid but not amazing extracurriculars and played a varsity sport.

D received 25K a year chancellor nominee scholarship! With a three week deadline and letter taking a week to get here, does that mean she has only 2 weeks to get it done?

Congratulations, @greentea3 !! I don’t know the answer to your question but I’m curious as to whether others do - that’s a big question. Good luck!

@greentea3 I’m sure that a quick call to the chancellor’s office would probably give you the official answer.

But…It took my son’s letter ten days to get here and he made the deadline. I’d suggest not asking for an extension. 2 weeks is a long time!

Congrats!

@greentea3 you can call and ask but honestly that’s the same amount of time everyone else has. It’s kind of a "they ask you to jump and you say “how high” type of a situation. Most kids just hunker down and get it all done and submitted. But if there are extenuating circumstances such as family travel for a holiday or a funeral, etc. then it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

@greentea3 yes my D was away on a school trip when her letter arrived, so she only had about 2 weeks to submit the Chancellor’s scholarship application.

@pickledginger Congrats to your son! That’s a great opportunity for him!

D18 classmate got full tuition offer, in state to flagship, don’t know his stats, but he is probable valedictorian. @AmyBeth68 I think you are correct in that the high stat kids get merit offers first, so you should be good oos. I have a question regarding merit, let’s say this probable valedictorian gets his ED school, does his merit money go back into play for later use? Or do they over admit knowing not everyone will accept admittance?

@MPT3D my total guess is that they over admit hoping to grab these amazing perfect stat kids. I do know a few from earlier years that could have gone Ivy but chose Pitt due to the full scholarship and overall quality of the education. I’m so happy for all that have been given wonderful scholarships :).

@MPT3D NO—that most assuredly does not happen…or at least it hasn’t in the past few years. There are no further offers of merit; merit offers are not raised (unless you submit a cost analysis and have competing offers from similarly ranked schools to show a lower COA at that school).

Lots of schools did over admit last year but Pitt did not. I think they are very careful with their offers and they know how to play their yield game close to the chest. The merit offers so far (with the exception of a few) are much more generous than last year. I wonder if their yield from high stat kids last year was lower than expected. It would make sense. Last year they seemed to lead with $15K-$20K/year for the 35 ACT kids. This year it seems to be $25K.

There are going to be many of these high stat kids who have received full-tuition who will log on in May and will announce they are attending an Ivy. Pitt expects that.

And yes…for those of us who who are envious of the full tuition awards it is very hard to watch, lol! $-)

@JMRome, thank you - it really is so generous! Pitt has been such a wonderful school to deal with as an applicant, too. My son talked a friend into submitting an application today (not many people in our area are familiar with Pitt) because we are so impressed with it.

its a great day! My son received $25k/year scholarship (no Chancellor invite). OOS, top 2 %, 35 ACT, 4.4 W. Engineering.

@CONGRATS @ashto12!! Well deserved, very exciting :slight_smile:

thank you!!!

At last, our long wait is over. My daughter has got $20K per year, no chancellor invite. 3.94 uwGPA, 4.64 wGPA, 1540 SAT superscore. 6 APs plus 4APs in senior year. Dietrich Arts and Science, PreMed.

We are OOS. Answered all three questions

Full tuition (in-state) w/ Chancellor’s invite - early graduate, 4.0 GPA, 1590 SAT, 10 APs total.

@bsms2018 @wildesfeuer , Congratulations!!!

@thishappens , thank you very much
