Is it in the recycling bin?

no. i emptied the recycling ben before i found out that the sound was gone.

Maybe you can download a new sound thing from download.cnet.com?

I'm not really an expert...but what sound program was it? You might have it backed up somewhere like a utility disk or something.

do u have a pc? is so, on the bottom right corner of the screen, near the clock, there are icons like aim guy, winzip, and then there is supposed to be the sound icon with the speaker as its icon, well its not there....what do u think it would be called? what is the name of it so i can type it in on that website? thanks!!

Yeah, I have PC...it's just called volume. It has to be somewhere on the hardrive then, you might just have deleted the shortcut. Do a search for it.

Yeah, it should still be there. Go to the start menu, then to Programs, then Accessories, then Entertainment... it should be "Volume Control".

^^^ i tried this and this message popped up every time i tried doing it:

"there are no active mixer devices available. To install active mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click printers and other hardware, and then click Hardware."

^^i tried this but it didnt really work.

what company made your sound card? i think you need to download new drivers and software. for example if you had turtle beach santa cruz like me, type that into google, and then add "drivers and software" and you would get a whole list. choose the one that matches your sound card and pc.

how can i find out which company makes my sound card??

Your error message seems to indicate that you're not running Windows XP. Under XP, you should go to Control Panel, click on System then select Hardware to check on your sound card.

If your computer has a separate sound card installed, you should have a installation cd with the correct drivers. Check the back of your computer to see where your speakers are plugged into... If the speaker cable is plugged into a card sitting in one of the five or so slots connected into the motherboard, you'll need to refer to the docs that came with your PC to see who manufactured the card. If the cable is plugged into the built in sound port of your motherboard (off to the side) then you should go to the web site of the motherboard manufacturer or the PC company (Dell/HP/etc) and look for the appropriate drivers...

Good luck!

Your computer did not lose "sound." It might have lost the sound card driver. In this case use the CD that you got w/ the soudn card, or just download the driver.

To determine Sound Card:

Click Start
Select 'Run'
type 'dxdiag'
hit enter

Click the 'sound' tab on the window that comes up.
All the information you should need will be there.

It seems like you have deleted the Windows driver... I really don't know how you managed to do that with such limited computer knowledge but you should find out the name of your Sound Card manufacturer and model number and then google for a driver.

oliver: did just that and this is what it said: "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.' so i guess checkmeout was right. is the sound card something we have to buy? or is it a download? sorry...first time its happened to me so i am kind of lost. thanks

oh that?
i had that problem when i reinstalled windows. if ur computer is dell u can download it from the website according to ur model. i would say contact ur computer company or more likely go to their website. They should have sth.

yes my computer is a dell. an inspiron 1150 laptop to be more precise. i dont know where to go when i am on the dell.com website though.

^^^thank you so much! it works now!
