I got rejected! I applied to my senator and I was flat-out rejected.
I’m really worried I’m going to do nothing productive this summer! Does anyone have ANY other ideas? I checked around the student.gov and I was extremely unsuccessful. Anything else?

Two suggestions:
- Don’t take it personally. They said you were rejected, not that your life sucks.
- Volunteer or get a job.

Also, student.gov (and related websites) are geared mainly toward college/grad students; the HS opportunities’ deadlines have mostly passed–or they’re the same old kind of student work experience whatnots that get you interested in working for the government for the rest of your life. Or they’re based in specific cities (such as D.C.) and you’ll be hard-pressed to find housing and such. So yeah, student.gov is meh.

Hey, does anyone know where the application for the page program is! i’m waiting on a few e-mails to see if i can apply but I want to get a start on the application since it seems like the deadlines are coming up pretty soon! thankss

You ask your rep for it. It’ll probably differ slightly by office.

Another etiquette question (boy, I wish my school offered a class on this type of stuff!):

I contacted my representative’s office, and a staff member affirmed that they could indeed nominate someone this summer. I was given the email contact information of their scheduler, whom I promptly emailed. Would it be uncouth to “follow up” with a call back to the office, asking specifically for her?

P.S. I did also apply to my Senator. Should I just sit and wait for an email or phone call? (They didn’t specify how, if at all, they would contact people)

You should definitely call back! Today I called and office twice and e-mailed them and they called called me back so quickly after I left my second voice mail! Not like it matters for me anymore, the only person who is willing to accept my application says i have to turn it in by May 3rd which is almost impossible and even if I did, their district is like 7 hours away from mine so they probably wouldn’t choose me! I just wish I knew this before i made 53 phone calls…haha! but good luck with everything

Calling works wonders. Emails are often ignored. So I always call people, not even bothering to email.

Has anyone heard anything yet? My representative is being really annoying. He is still undecided.-__-

Directly from my congressman today:
"I just got off the phone with a representative from the Speaker’s office regarding this summer’s Congressional Page Program. The Speaker’s office is going to begin contacting congressional offices this week and next week to inform them if they will be able to nominate pages for the summer. At this point I am unsure as to whether our office will be selected to nominate pages.

That being said, there is a chance that our office may not be given the opportunity to nominate pages for the summer sessions. The ability to nominate pages is rotated amongst various congressional offices throughout the year. In the event that our office is unable to nominate pages for the summer we would likely still have the opportunity to nominate pages for either the fall or spring semesters next academic year."

what’s the best way to portray a congressional internship on your college resume? Do colleges like/value this type of service?

Has anyone been sent the application by their congressperson’s office? I got it as a PDF, and it won’t save any changes that I make to it.

I’ll have to give parts of it to teachers anyway, so should I just print it out and do it entirely by hand? Or do my parts typed and hand it to the people to do theirs? My handwriting’s atrocious, so I’m leaning toward the former; however, incongruity isn’t my thing.

It’s going to be a plus.

I’m guessing they cba to have made a PDF form (one you can actually fill out on the computer without having to buy Adobe Acrobat Professional), so yeah, print it out. If you want, you can re-scan it and then type what you need to on there, or just handwrite it.

My senator hasn’t decided yet… but does anyone know when the Senate Page program is? Like, what date to what date.

@somestudent

You actually MUST type all the information into the form besides where you and your parents sign. The counselor and teacher rec are obviously to be printed and handed into the person to fill out (by hand).

The Senate page program is closed for the summer if that’s what you’re talking about.

Hey I just found this page!!! I was told today that I was selected to be U.S. Senate Page for the second summer session (July 11 to August 5)!!! I’m from Delaware and I emailed my Senator’s office back in November to ask about the page program for this summer (I didn’t want to miss the application, lol). In December, they told me that they had applied for a page slot and then I didn’t hear back from them until two weeks ago when the woman i’d been in correspondence with emailed me the page application and requirements for possible selection. I had a phone interview on Monday and today she emailed me to say that I’d been selected!

I found out about this program this past summer when I went to Russia with the NSLI-Y scholarship. A few of the American teenagers going with me had applied and been rejected. I’m so excited to be a part of this program and I can’t wait for this summer!!

Good luck to everyone applying!!

Does anyone have any idea on when applications for the fall session will be out? I know some representatives just have students submit applications during one time of the year and choose their pages from that lot, but I’m sure that’s not everyone.

Should I call or is there some general knowledge of this (like two-months before session starts)?

I’d contact your rep.

Hi again all!

So the deadline to have the application into my congressman’s office is Monday, May 9th. I plan on mailing the application tomorrow.

My concern is that, even though I may mail it express, will it arrive in the office by Monday? I have seen disclaimers on congresspersons’ websites that mail to congresspersons will be significantly delayed. The office is in Washington, D.C., so I’m inclined to believe this piece of mail will be too.

Any remedy?

@somestudent,

my congressman had me send my application to their district office, who is able to send mail to washington without the security delays, or they can have a staff member who is back and forth just drop it off in dc… ask your office’s coordinator

(mail to the capitol building/house and senate office buildings does take about 3 weeks average)

PS if you’re going this summer, join this FB group ![Login | Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/home.php?sk=group_190975427601367)
