US House of Rep. Page Program

No this is not a guarantee. Your application is now going to the page board who has the final say… Several people were nominated by their congressman for the spring but rejected by the page board. So just be cautious!!!

Also it seems like there’s still some confusion… The senate page program 's application for the summer has already closed… It is still possible to get in for the house program

What are the usual dates for the House summer sessions?

Would it help if my congressman was a former Chair of the board (not sure if he still is after the last election cycle, but he’s prolly just on it)

You said that several were rejected from the page program by the board… What are the odds and how greatly should I be concerned?

Does anyone have any idea when I can start applying for the summer session for the house of reps in California! I have called multiple times, and they keep telling me the won’t know who is eligible to sponsor students until the end of april. So i guess I will call back tomorrow and see if there is any new information.

@barbie: It is out of your hands once you submit your application. It is very, very rare that the Page Board and Speaker’s office will reject a nominated applicant. You have no reason to be concerned. If your sponsoring member (Rep. Kildee I assume) is in good standing with the current leadership (which he is), I would not worry.

From the spring term, about 63 out of 72 were accepted… It’s not likely, but it’s possible… Hope to see you there:)

Do you have any information on the summer appointments? Have those emails been sent? I have heard nothing either way, but it is getting late in the process so not hopeful!

The majority of offices I’ve contacted have stated that they have not received any information about the program yet; the remainder have said that they cannot nominate a page. For a program that begins in June (for the first session), is this not awfully late? I would have no qualms about trying again in May (as some have suggested), but I’m afraid that the process must have at least begun by now.

It does seem very late for this all to happen, but just be patient… There are usually two session every summer, but it could be just one session this year that starts later in the summer, but may go a little longer… as I said before, it’s fairly obvious that Congress has many more important things to do then this, so the only advice I can give is to just keep contacting your Congressman’s office until you get what you need to know… Don’t e-mail, as they probably won’t respond… Just call directly, usually the DC office (at least for my Congressman) and ask for the page program coordinator.

Rest assured that they will not cancel the program or anything along those lines for the summer, it’s just something that they seem to be putting off. The office of the Clerk deals with everything so it could be that they have not yet put together the application form or something… Just keep in touch with your Congressman.

The House has not released the app in our area as of yet, but the senate page apps went out in February. This is what I am most curious about, has anyone heard on their Senate app’s yet, or is no news still good news???

My sources have told me that this year there will only be one summer session, and it will be 6 weeks long. Not sure on the dates, though.

I can confirm with decent certainty what moto said. Also…

Most of you have been waiting for this moment, the applications are available for the house summer program and they are due may 13th. Your congressman will know if s/he can nominate a page this summer, so I suggest putting a call in tomorrow if you’re interested!!

I am very interested in this program, however, I sometimes get unpleasant when I am extremely tired or stressed out. I was wondering, for former pages, how much sleep did you, on average, get a night? and how much/hard was the homework?

I have more information for you guys now!

The member lists are all out of who can sponsor a page. The reason for the delay was that there is a new coordinator for the program in the Speaker’s office and this is his/her first time putting it together. Applications are due May 13th to the Speaker’s office, most likely sooner to your Congressman’s office. There will be one session and it will be running from June 27th to August 5th tentatively. Contact your congressman ASAP if you want to get in.

Best of luck, feel free to ask away with any questions!

Is the member list open to the public?

Thanks!

okay so if the program is until August 5, is there any possible way I can leave earlier like 6 days earlier?

No the list is not publicized, you must call your member’s office

And as for leaving early, it asks on the app if you can stay the whole time. Most likely if you answer no it will decrease your chance of acceptance I imagine. But I Am not positive so I would check with your members office

@stocker

Thank you so much for keeping us all in the loop. You’ve saved me my sanity (perhaps at the cost of yours, dealing with some of the more insipid questions!)

Another, though:

I contacted my congressman, and he could not sponsor a page. My state does have over ten congressmen, so there’s no paucity there. But in contacting future congressmen, what, if anything, should I take into account? More specifically:

Should I try those closest to me first? Or does it really not matter?
Also, even though I’d be perfectly happy to work for either party, would I be more inclined to first ask representatives of the party with which I align? Or do all pages perform the same work, regardless of nominating congressman’s affiliation? (My understanding’s a bit hazy here)

Finally–sorry again!–in the event that two or more congressmen are accepting applications, should I sent multiple out? Or, as an act of courtesy (and of preventing pandemonium) should I only try one?

Thanks again!
