USA June 2011 SAT: MATHEMATICS Discussion Thread

Did wveryone get a question with inscribed rectangles?

How do you do the Carolyn question anyways?

^Are you sure 14 is an answer for the multiples Q? That’s what I put, but I thought I got it wrong…

How are there 6 ways to arrange five 2’s and five 1’s?

no, 14 does not work. it has 7 multiples inside 100, and 2 would be extraneous because of 14x3 and 14x6, so you would have 5 integers taken out, leaving you with 62.

Or did I read the question wrong? :(

^Was that an experimental problem?

@PencilxBoxes Definitely not. I had CR experimental.

Someone please predict -4x?

Can someone explain to me the grid in where the answer is 180. I was trying desperately to figure it out but I couldn’t so I tried 120 and kinda noticed the number is bigger the farther it is from the first 2 so then i tried 160 but it was too low so I tried 180. Got on here and checked it was the right answer :D

Jesus, -4 now. I got some incredibly easy problems wrong like the 5x5x5 cubes one (didn’t take the time to add the volumes of BOTH of the smaller prisms).

So dumb.

1600 was the answer for which question?

@Chess the one about the juniors and the class.

did anyone have a grid in with a Mr. Wu or something where he had to drive 7 miles to his new house to move 13 chairs but can only move 3 chairs at once in his car?

Also what was the question where the answer was 42??

Ok, I am confused about the question with maximum value. Everyone says it is the -(x-2)^2+(-2)^2, but how is this so? if you foil out -(x^2+4x+4)+4, you get -x^2-4x+0?, max/min value is defined as -b/2a, therefore max=-(-4)/-2, which would be 4/-2, or -2 max. Therefore the first answer, -x^2 +2, must be the answer. Or did i mess up?
edit:… i hate myself.

Praise Jesus. I was getting worried about that one…
Hey guys I was wondering if I should cancel my scores… got a 2270 last time, 740M 740CR 790W and i think this time I will get low 700s in CR and W but about a 770 in Math. Is it worth it to have the lower score 2nd time around just for the extra 30 point boost in superscore?? Please give me your honest opinions because I need to cancel asap if that is the case

O.o; I really didn’t know how to figure that one question that was asking about quadratics… the answers were like -(x-1) + (x)^3 or something, I duno. >_<;

And that one question about those three boxes one short, one tall, and another short, and how many cubes were in there. I put 40… not sure if right. :T

what about the one with the answers choices 2m-5 or (2m-5^2)

So, right now (lol, this is best case scenario) I have 3 math questions omitted and 2 math questions wrong. So with 3 omits and 2 wrongs, is there any chance that my score will be at least 700?

@Lucasw, I’m pretty sure that’s experimental
