USC 2009 transfer thread

is OASIS designed for all applicants, or just those who are requesting financial aid??

jellyfish08: thanks for the website!!

OASIS is designed for all applicants, you can make a username and password on their website.

does anyone know if you need a cover sheet if you send in 2008 income tax returns?

No, just make sure that you 1) have them signed; 2) note your full name on the top; and 3) note your USC ID on the top.

when do admission results usually get sent out by for fall transfer applicants??

The earliest admits last year knew by about the second week in May. Many were notified mid- to late- May. The website specifically says that they will notify you of admission/rejection or of a Spring Grades Request by June 1st. If you get a Spring Grades Request, you can expect to be in limbo until late June/early July. Brutal.

From what I saw on threads from previous years, those who were admitted for the spring don't find out until late July. One guy didn't even find out until August...haha

From my experience last year, don't trust the June 1st "deadline." I received a spring grade request June 17th and got a rejection letter something like July 27th. (July wasn't a mistake, literally over a month later.)

So, does USC always ask for a midyear report? Do they ask for it before or after you are accepted and how strict are they on what you receive; as in, have you heard of anyone getting accepted and then rejected? ?(I guess blsdmf did?)

USC sends out one of the following to their applicants:
An Acceptance letter, Rejection letter, or a Spring-Grade Request to borderline students, who, if their spring-grades are good, will probably gain admission to USC.

Radiance is correct, however, last year after I sent my spring grades in (which were all A's in 12 units) they still rejected me. From what I understand, the spring grade request is more aimed towards people with sophomore standing. People with junior standing seem to either get an acceptance or rejection.

Thanks Radiance
Ok, blsdmf, you were a sophomore when you first applied. Sorry that happened, hope that you get in this time.

Lets just hope none of us have to live the ordeal of waiting another 4-6 weeks to hear back after sending in spring grades.

I mailed the letters of recommendation to USC 3 weeks ago; however, when I called in to check my status, they said they had everything they required except for the recs according to their "system". My point is, what if some adcoms has hand-filed them into my file, the admission officers don't even bother checking the hard-copies in my actual file but always brag about "their system". I was furious when he raised his voice with me "No, I already looked in the SYSTEM, and I'm not going to do it again." What got into him? I was being extremely nice.

zircushio- Yeah I totally agree. My spring grades will all be out by May 14th at the latest so I'm just gonna send them in as soon as they're up, and USC hopefully better give me a decision by early June!!

Yuta, I bet they get calls like that 35,000 times a day. literally. haha dont worry about it, if you sent it-i'm sure they got it... their probably just cranky from reading a ton of applications :P

@ zircushio: haha thanks man, but why 35,000 times ^^? jk

So I believe someone in this thread said that Spring Grade Request is for ppl who apply as a sophomore standing. Do ppl who apply for junior standing get those in the mail too or only admission/rejection letters?

captain - yes I was considered a sophomore, even after I sent my spring grades in. I am a film major so that might have had something to do with it. This year I applied with 66 units, hopefully a better turn out.

yuta - From what I saw last year, it was mainly those with sophomore standing that received a spring grade request. If they are kind of on the wall about you, they will send the request to see if you kept your grades up (however, I got all A's and that still wasn't enough so who knows exactly what they do with it.) Those with junior standing seemed to either get an admission or rejection letter, and since there was no spring grade request for them, they started receiving decisions almost a month earlier.

I saw several people in last year's thread who applied for junior standing with 40-50+ units at time of application get spring grade requests. If I get one of those wretched things, I might actually have to turn down USC all together - UC SIRs are due on June 1st, and I think it's pretty audacious that they put us in limbo like that.
