mine hasn't changed since 1/20 lol

Mine updated March the 2nd.

I didn't get a status update either! It's been the same since 02/02/2009.

Guys... I'm gettin' really worried... doing 19 units and expecting A's....

So I stopped.

I will do my best, and if I get straight A's, great. If I get 1 or 2 B's out of my 5 classes, then will that diminish my chances?

I'm just REALLY convinced that the admit GPA is going to FALL DRAMATICALLY this year, because of the recession, and different going back to junior colleges or 4-year schools, etc.

Apparently it was 3.57 a few years ago, that helps lol

Well the recession will drop a lot of applicants who cannot afford USC who think this way. But remember that USC is a university that has not been severly impacted by the current recession as most public schools. USC provides lots of aid via scholarships hosted by various alumni organizations in the network and donations from the Trojan Family network is a huge plus for them. As for the 3.57 GPA average, it really depends on which major you are applying to which will tell you how selective it realy is.

archieg - Just keep up the A's and you'll do fine. I'm applying Fall 10' which is a long way from now, so I'm ready like you to get this semester done with.

I got a question about the transfer Letter of Recommendation for USC. I'm applying in Fall 10' for undergraduate Marshall School of Business and I was wondering if I could be able to send out a recommendation from a boss of mine, my past high school counselor, or a USC professor (my friend's dad).

I know it is a long way from now for me to be thinking about applying but I really want to be ready when I apply to USC and have everything sorted out.

Right now I have a USC professor (my theatre/humanities professor) that has agreed to write me a letter of recommendation when the time comes.

Any comments would be appreaciated.

So i know that the majority of accepted transfers are from cc's. 60%ish and only 19% or so from schools outside of california. but i have to assume that the majority of applicants fall in the cc category... does anyone have any idea if these are skewed because of the number of applicants in each category.

i'm just trying to gauge my chances

thank y'all for any help

You can send in whatever letter you'd like. They expand on the universities knowledge of you as an individual, so it's definitely not a bad thing. You should include a letter from an academic advisor/professor/dean too.

travis--likely it's a numbers thing. CC transfer apps come in far higher numbers than 4 year transfer apps. There have been plenty of quality four year applicants on here that have been accepted.

hippo50 - thanks for the advice. With that advice in check, I'll be putting 3 recommendations next year for Fall 10'. 1st from my high school counselor to show how much I've changed since being in high school, 2nd a USC professor who has already taught me in his classes at cc, and 3rd a USC professor (my friend's dad) who is just recommending me.

I'm hoping having these recommendations will help me get into USC.

Those sound like awesome rec letters!

MB24, I'd advise against a high school recommender just because more recent (academic) references are usually preferred. Unless you've had plenty of personal experience with that person, you should get someone who knows you for your work. Counselor's tend to be your advocate, and though not always, are obligated to help you. Unless s/he can speak to how you compare to other students from HS, specifically your year, you should reconsider.

TrojanTransfer? - I'll take that advice into consideration and thank you. I actually do have a great bond with my past high school counselor. I still keep in contact with him and I was thinking if I could be able to show him the drastic improvement from HS (2.7 GPA) to my current CC (3.5 or higher depending on what I receive) and balancing work, it would probably help in writing a great letter of recommendation about how I've improved.

If I have a change in heart later about the recommendation, I can most likely attain a recommendation from my current boss who I've worked under for 2 and going on 3 years.

hey would you guys recommend to W a course that I am not doing well?
I have a GPA of 3.89 right now and I am applying as a junior.
Do you think W would affect my chance?

One W should not hurt unless it's a prerequisite.

It really depends on what course and major you're not doing well in. If you are not doing well in a prereq course with a D or F then yes, get a W.

okay, i've been searching this thread looking for someone with similar stats as me, but i didn't find anyone.

my high school gpa is a 2.9 uw with about 10 EC per year (i like being kept busy). i'm a freshman at a cc, and my gpa is a 4.0 uw and i am a member of phi theta kappa honors society and thrive leadership program. i applied as undecided and my essay and short answers were really good. i've been trying to stay optimistic, but i know hs grades are really going to pull me down. what do you think, realistically?

marco911, how many college credits will you have by the end of this school year? if it's more than 30 than they won't heavily weigh your HS stats... but they will look at them. Honestly, though, showing a drastic improvement in GPA from HS and college will look very good.

There was someone from last year that had a 2.7 hs gpa and a 4.0 college gpa that got accepted.. Good luck!

by the end of this year i will have 28 hours. i am so close! i'm really hoping my situation turns out to be like that, haha. i'm still maintaining that 4.0, so hopefully they will see my determination.
thank you!

ssl1028- I am doing the same thing for a math class that I took. It is an Algebra class (i know...) and I already fulfilled the recs in high school- so I accidentally took the class. so i am petitioning to not get a W. perhaps you can find a good reason to petition at your school. its worth a shot. if, not, i am keeping the W because I am a religion major, dont need math, dont like it, and i can focus on my other classes.

anyone down to let their hair grow out nd cut it when sc acceptance letters come =)? ahahha we goin dancing
