You’re welcome guys! I just hope I can maintain my gpa and get those 30 credits!..is there a fast foward button already so we could all know our decisions? haha

Hmm, well, thank you guys for your opinions! I think I’ll give it a shot for this year, and if I don’t get in, there’s always next year. :)

I’m going to apply for the CLAS Psych BA, 2nd choice will be Open/Deciding

Pinstripe - my thoughts exactly. By the way, I emailed asking about specific courses and they said that if a course isn’t in the articulation history it just means no one from that school has tried to transfer that course in, not necessarily that it’s not transferable. Which I figured anyway, but it’s nice to have a confirmation. :P

Pinstripe - I know, right? I’m so anxious.

dream - It’s good to know that internal transfer into the SCA isn’t next-to-impossible. When I first started looking into applying, I had my mind made up that I was going to apply for Critical Studies and Anthropology. I figured I had a better shot at getting into either CS or Visual/Cultural Anthro. I did know that I could still hold a camera in the CS concentration, so I was cool with that, but I didn’t know until you brought it up that there were non-major film courses at the SCA… awesome! I came across Narrative Studies while looking through USC’s entire list of majors trying to find a few to look into that would supplement my interest in film. NS was definitely one of the most interesting I came across. Anyway, I ended up changing to Production as my 1st choice, as that’s what I’ve wanted since middle school, and I felt like I was tampering with a dream by choosing CS. /dramatic But now I’m rethinking my 1st choice yet again…

Oh! And thanks for that confirmation (about the articulation history). :)

Defiantly excited about this! It’s gonna suck waiting until June 1st for the decision though! Does anyone know if prof evaluations/recommendations are required? Or are they optional? I didn’t see it listed as part of the application.

Hey thats good news dreamupsidedOwn! So chances are that your course will transfer over!
dazedNconfused20(great movie btw) I believe prof. recommendations for CLAS is optional, and if you look past former thread like USC transfer thread 2010, many of the applicants who got accepted never sent a recommendation. But if you think it’ll help your case then by all means send it! as for the other school departments(SCA,Marshall, etc…) im not sure if it’s required, but for sure it’s optional in CLAS

@pinstripe, thanks! Thats what I figured! And dazed and confused is a great movie, part of the reason I wanna relocate to California lol!

dazedNconfused20 - Recommendations are optional for CLAS but mandatory for some other schools. For example, SCA asks for three. I think Annenberg asks for one, but I’m not sure.

Pinstripe - I just got some bad news. My school isn’t offering an advanced composition class next semester (and they didn’t offer it this semester either)… what do I do? :(

Hey guys, I talked to an admissions counselor and he told me that you don’t HAVE TO take the writing requirement before you transfer. At my school our lower division writing requirement is different from the writ 130 class equivalent they want me to take. Also, he said that the req is “typically waived for students transferring from 4 year institutions.” I hope that is useful to some of you.

BTW is anyone in their third year like myself?

Okay… I emailed USC. Ugh this stinks. Why wouldn’t they offer an Advanced Comp class? So many people need it!

The only English classes they are offering are 098, 099, 100, 101, and 102… and I can’t take those because I got AP credit for 101 and 102.

EDIT: Thanks for that info, monzaaay. I hope I get a similar answer.

Hey guys, I’m in my first year at a CC and planning to get out of here in a year and transfer to USC!! I have soooooo many questions its crazy so I’ll just start out with a few starting with : 1) Application 1, for the gpa/SAT/ACT section, do you have to fill it in? or can you just leave it blank? Because I want to submit this app already, but how do I know my gpa for this fall semester already when I just started? And the test scores? Wouldn’t that mean from HS? That would mean they are asking for my HS gpa? 2) As for the second major option, can I leave that blank as well? If I fill it in or not, it won’t count against me right? 3) Is it possible to get accepted without any school extracurriculars but an internship that stands out really good for your major? 4) Does submitting your final application and financial aid early increase your chances of living on campus?

Thanks!!

jaajaa20 - thank you for asking questions that haven’t already been asked. it’s refreshing.

You can leave the GPA section blank because Part I is only for statistical purposes. You’ll have to fill it in in the Part II application. You are only required to submit test scores if you will have under 30 transferable units completed by the end of the spring. You can leave the second major option blank, it will not count against you. HOWEVER, if you will enter USC as a sophomore, then you are automatically considered for the Open/Still Deciding major if you get rejected from your first two choices. So, I think it is in your best interest to submit two, but you don’t have to. A really prestigious internship is a great EC. Are you sure you don’t have ANY others though? Even quirky hobbies like collecting yellow watches or something like that counts as an EC. Think outside the box a little if that area of your application is lacking. Submitting everything early does not increase your chances of living on campus, unfortunately. Everyone is considered at the same time provided they submitted all information before the deadline. :)

Which major are you applying to?

Thanks dream! Yeah, Ive been pretty much stalking everyone at CC for a while now reading every posts. I was so happy to find out about this thread though, pheww such a relief! after reading all the old ones not sure if the same things qualified. But thanks to you guys, Ive gotten most of my questions answered and i can help too considering Ill go to every site, advisor, workshop, anything available to me! Figuring this whole transfer process has taken my time away from actually focusing on my classes (the most important part! haha) and yeah thats bad lol but ive got it i hope ahah. Sometimes i feel over prepared to the point where Im just chillin while everyone else is stressing so I dont know if thats good? Hmmm…

So anyways, I see because im taking 15 units right now for fall, then hopefully atleast 11 in the winter, then 15 or more by spring :-). So I dont have to fill out the SAT/ACT right? My highschool record was ehh 3.2, leadership, passed Alg 2 so i don’t have to take any math in college according to my USC district advisor. However, what really screwed me over was foreign language. Booo!! I took it three years in HS, thought it would count for their 3 semester language requirement, but only if you passed the AP test. So now, if im lucky, Ill just have to take Spanish 3 in my college. I won’t have to take 3 semesters as long as i complete the upper level they want(no matter how many classes skipped) so lets pray that happens hehe. Also because my major (broadcast journalism!!) requires one term of foreign language incase any b.j majors don’t know. Btw, does anyone know if Annenberg has their own application deadline? Thanks! Oh and can their requirement of a one page statement of intent (for journalism and public relations majors) qualify for the regular application essay as well? or how does that work?

Awww well if i get in, i want a dorm so bad! So lets pray that also happens haha and for everyone else here! Admission should really look at these threads and see how much we really want it since what USC looks for is more of the person, how much they want it and grown as a person since HS and their improvement.

Sorry if this is a dumb question… but what is CLAS? >.<
I keep seeing it popping up, but I never knew what it was!

Also, does anyone know what the probability of transfers getting on-campus housing is? I’ve heard quite a few horror stories about that…

On the application, what do we put for GPA if we’re in our first semester freshman year (I know jajaa asked this but he didnt seem to get an answer)?

I e-mailed the office of admissions for SCA about what to put for the dates of attendance for the college we are currently at. You are required to include an “End date” but they don’t offer an “Up to present” or “currently attending” option. Well wuddya know, the admissions office replied back telling me to put “At present” >.> …way to go… anyways, any advice on this?

Oh yah, and about the ECs, Im worried. Im going to try to find any clubs available at my CC and community service. I really have to get on that! But then i feel like they re not that important because ive seen so many rejections here with a million ECs, internships, outstanding performances besides GPA, and they have a real job. So for sure ill join something cause i doubt they will take anyone just taking classes and getting 4.0, but i shouldnt have to take more than what i can handle and exhaust myself considering those past rejections.

jaajaa20 - are you on the quarter system? I think you have to divide your total units by 2.67 or something to translate to semester units… so as long as you have 30 semester units, you don’t have to fill out the SAT/ACT portion. I think Annenberg might have their own application deadline… not entirely sure. Check the website or PM one of the users on the list that are also applying to BJ. I think your letter of intent has to be different from your regular application essay, if that’s what you’re asking. Yeah if I get in I want to live in a dorm for at least a semester. Yeah I’m pretty lost as far as ECs go… not too many opportunities other than internships/jobs.

Neji107 - CLAS is the College of Letters, Arts, and Science. Otherwise known as USC College. Unfortunately I don’t know anything about transfer housing other than that it’s not guaranteed. Apartments are cheaper anyway though! If you’re a first semester freshman, leave the GPA blank on Part I. Then once you know your first semester GPA, you can write it in for Part II. I was confused about the end date too so I think I just put May 2011 or something. I’m sure they’ll figure it out.

@jaajaa20 - I know! I’d like a dorm if I get in, but I think that USC has a few USC-owned apartments around campus, or at least nearby. I was very pleased to find out that they charge per semester, which takes out the headache of month by month leases. >_<.

Another question: If I’m currently taking College Algebra, will it transfer if Precalculus is considered the terminal math of my degree @ USC?

gousc92 - I’m not sure, you may want to email them about that.
