Hey guys, im going to an out of state cc. I just looked up the articulation history for school, and there was nothing on there besides BIO 101. Does this mean im out of luck? The school I go to is 30 minutes from this other cc where they have a WHOLE list of classes for the articulation history, do you guys think USC would accept credits from my school? Since it is only 30 minutes away, and no one from my school has ever tried to transfer there.

PikachuTrojan - if no one from your school has ever tried to transfer there, then there would be no reason for them to have an articulation history. The likely answer is that someone from that nearby CC couldn’t find that particular BIO 101 class at the other CC and transferred it from there, or someone from a nearby high school took BIO 101 there and transferred it to USC. I doubt that that is the ONLY possible course that would transfer over, because you probably have things like SOC 101 and other gen ed classes.

MissJay - that’s weird… alamemom is right. Did you already send in the whole application?

What is the easiest major to transfer into? I will have a 3.69 after first semester here. I was thinking undeclared?

Howdy!

I’ve been roaming around here for the past two days trying to get some stats on the actual SCA admit rates and patterns, so I figure, why not share my experience and contribute to some future kids’ search for truth? :P

I’m a sophomore at Woodbury University in Burbank, CA, a transfer from Iowa State University. I applied to SCA last semester towards sophomore standing and was given a SGR. I had a 3.5 gpa that semester, but still got rejected in July. However, I now realize that my two withdrawals that semester probably had a lot to do with it.

I came to CA anyways to get closer to the heart of entertainment and closer to my dream.

I’m applying again this semester for Film and Television Production and I anticipate a 4.0 gpa and a much more developed essay and portfolio.

Hope something strange happens and we all get in!

Oh! and I was wondering- for SCA applicants- how are you planning to present your photography/video sample? Are you going to use something like Vimeo or YouTube, or do you have your own website?

It seems like a lot- I liked sending in the DVD last year a lot better. :/

panther13 - one of my friends who got into Production as a freshman last year used youtube. A few of the other applicants used vimeo. I used flickr for photos, but I got rejected. XD I didn’t see anyone else on here submit photos, which I thought was odd.

dreamupsided0wn- Thanks. I didn’t want to end up being the lone ghetto kid who linked a youtube channel this year lol. But one of the SCA reps I talked to on the phone did say to be careful with youtube, because several videos have been removed due to copyright infringement without the applicant realizing and in those cases it was just tough luck.

I checked out some of the visual samples on youtube… I think it’s pretty neat, but also a slight invasion of privacy that we get to size up our competition in that way. I think I’m going to go a different route. :)

are we allowed to send in formal supplemental documents like newspaper articles, etc.?

or use media like a video or something? i noticed the post above mine did, but that was specifically for the arts.

Should I be worried??? I don’t know why and I’m kind of freaking out. Why did The School of Cinematic Arts send me an email confirmation about their undergraduate programs, open house stuff, etc, when I didnt even apply there? Im applying to Annenberg. Shouldnt THEY be sending me emails? which they havent yet. Is this like a techincal error and i shouldnt be worried and just let it go? Who has gotten anything from Annenberg who is applying there?

Btw, I also mentioned earlier about the Marshall app that is there for me to fill in because not thinking thoroughly, I chose Business as my sec major so I want to change that and @dreamupsidedown told me I can change it in the second application. However, i cant find that section :-[ where can I find to change my major options?

Hows everyone doing in their classes and portfolio btw? Hopefully its going smoothly. ;-)

SCA Transfer here! I’m pretty confident that I can get in to USC, but not quite sure about getting into the SCA, because there is no formula for that. Here are my stats…

California Resident attending a California Community College

Transfer Student 4.0 in transferable units

English requirement in progress, Math Requirement met

No W’s

Step-Grandmother is a USC Alum

No test scores

Part time jobs held since high school

Extracurriculars include HS Tennis Team, HS Video Team (+ Assistant Producer credit), too many things involving HS Video team to list!

Awards relating to work in HS Video Team, recognition from actual production company in HS, Dean’s list in CC, Film Festival Finalist

Summer programs in HS

Essay VERY strong (I am attempting to get into screenwriting btw…)

I’ve gone to a transfer meeting, and attended an online SCA meeting. I might go to the open house coming up soon, but I’m not too sure. I know these things don’t matter with applications and all, but part of me thinks that they may take note of it or something…

Well anyway, that’s it. Here’s hoping we all get in :o

^ Maybe you got my email. :P

@jaajaa20:

Hope that helps!

wait i’m confused
i’m a freshman at ucr rite now… and want to major in business
so when they say 30 transferable units
that also means semester units rite… which means 45 quarter units…
rite now fall quarter im taking 16 units… . which is around 10.6 semester units??
i will also be taking around 10.6 semest units too for my winter quarter
and i have 24 units from AP/IB courses from high school
so total: 34?

when they say 30 units… does that mean the units we took in COLLEGE…
do they not count the high school ones…
AGH sorry if its a dumb question
Help!

30 credits means 30 COLLEGE credits which are credits you have in your freshman year or credits that you took in a community college prior your entrance as freshman. For example, you took some college class in your summer in a community college, that counts.

That means they dont take APs into account, i think. Also if you are at UCR, you should plan to take 16 credits/quarter so you will have around 48-quarter-credit/32 semester-unit by the end of the year.

Hello Everyone, longtime lurker first time poster.

I am attending several different CCs in the Los Angeles Community College District. I’m looking to apply to Viterbi as a CS Major for Fall 2011 and I will have completed

Cat I, II, III, IV,
Writ 130 Equivalent
Diversity Requirement

During the Spring semester I will be taking :
PreCalc
Science Requirement Bio 7 (BISC220)
Cat III Chem 101 (105A).

During the Summer I will take

Calc I (Math 125)

Science Elective
Chem 102 (Chem 102b).

Should I even attempt to apply if I have not completed Calc I (Math 125) and the second semester of my lab science by the end of Spring 2011 ? I know that they recommend to have completed Calc II before applying. I will be applying with 30+ units 3.7+ gpa (depending on Spring semester). Maybe apply as undecided / undeclared ? Thanks in advance for the help :D

By the way guys, sorry I’ve been really inactive lately. XD I visited my friends at UIUC the last two weekends and in between that I’ve been working/keeping up with school. Registering for classes this week! What kinds of classes is everyone taking? And where else is everyone applying?

I’m currently taking Elementary Statistics, Speech/Communication 101, Astronomy, and Intro to Sociology. Next semester I’m hopefully taking Cultural Anthropology, Intro to Psychology, Intro to Social Psychology, English 102, and Elementary French I. I might also take some kind of music class over the summer or in the spring because I’m going to be 2 credits away from an Associate’s without it. XD

I’m applying to University of Chicago, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (in-state, safety), and maybe UPenn or Columbia (I didn’t apply to any Ivies as a senior so I kind of want to just for fun because their essays are really cool). USC is BY FAR my first choice though.

By far, i only apply to USC, if i get rejected, Ill do it again and apply for UCLA and USC again. If i got rejected again, i would just stay at UCSB and hope for Grad school.

@ dream : i finished my essay for USC, do you mind if i send it to you and ask for advice??

Goot Morning!

Whelp. I’m already in my sophomore year, and I’m running out of Gens to take- already took anthro, psych, bio, algebra, writing, research, and a bunch of diversity-esque courses. I’m thinking about taking a language next semester, but I don’t know if just refreshing mi espanol memory and taking a placement exam is a better idea. (I spent 5 years in Spanish and can’t speak a lick anymore. pobrecita lol)

I’m also wondering whether you guys are going to send your apps in early with the freshman pool, or wait to develop a stronger app and send it in by the deadline.

Do you think applying earlier increases your chances of winning admissions over?

And just as a note to sca applicants, I really do think that who we are as individuals is realllly important. I got a SGR last June. I know it’s not an acceptance, but with an application like mine, it was a miracle! I failed a class my last semester of high school, had a 2.5 gpa the first semester of my freshman year, and did the entire application the night before it was due. I even used an old high school essay.

:O

I know. Trust me, I’m not bragging about any of that stuff, it’s terrible. But I feel like because I did the app last minute, it was very raw and honest, and probably made someone interested in me.

Now, I did have pretty good test scores, a 3.5 HS gpa up until the failure (Idk what it was after that- stopped paying attention :/) and great demonstration of passion and initiative outside of the classroom, but even I was surprised they looked at my app seriously.

I’m applying to USC, UCLA, UCR, UCI, Berkeley and Chapman with one transfer under my belt already. I’m confident that I’ll get in to at least one of my top two, though. Gonna make it happen ;)

panther13 - I WANT to apply with the freshman pool, but it might be better to wait… I’ve been debating this with myself for a while. By the way, if you ever want to exchange SCA stuff let me know! I like having input from others.

I think my essays last time around weren’t unique enough… like, I love USC and I really want to go there, but some of the reasons I wrote about were things other people would say too. I also agree with you about the last-minute thing – I had already paid the application fee for NYU and I spent like… an hour on my film supplements. I also didn’t really want to go there, so I wasn’t worried about how my essays sounded (for the poem I wrote a haiku about how I hate rom-coms). I think I only got in because of the rawness/honesty too.

I’m applying for fall 2011 too. But i don’t know if i got a shot, because I had some family emergency so i had one quarter of all failing grade. I have already repeated those courses at a CC and got a decent grade. But USC representative told me that when they evaluate my application, they will recalculate my GPA and average those grades i failed with the new grade. In that case, my GPA will be drop from a 3.9 to a very low like… 3.4 something… I’m worried. Can someone tell me what my chance is to get into USC
