You can just leave that part out. That’s what im doing. They’ll just fill it in later.

Hey fellow potential transfers!

I just started my first year at community college and I’m going to apply for Fall '11 sophomore transfer to Marshall as Business Administration.

My other two universities of choice are UCLA (business economics) and UC Berkeley Haas but I won’t be able to apply to those until next year. So… depending on whether or not I get in this year, and if the financial aid is good or not (BIG factor for me), we’ll see!

I have a question:

When USC says that they will focus primarily on your high school record UNLESS you have 30 units or more, does that mean at the time of application, or before you transfer to their school? Because I will have ~22 units completed at the time of application (Fall+winter session), and then ~37 units at the end of Spring.

30 units by the end of your first year

I just talked to an admission counselor and they said they will look at your high school record if you do not have 30 units completed by the time we apply which is FEB 1st 2011.

but then how would it work if we are on a quarter system?

As of what semesters is the transferable gpa, that USC admission sees, taken from?

What I mean to say is, will this fall’s grades factor into my gpa? Or do they only see what I have before this fall, since on Part I of the application it says guestimated gpa…?

@snizzle yes the fall grades factor into your gpa.

a bit of a confusion. I emailed one of the assigned admission counselors and she said that they wont look at your hs grades if you have 30 credits or more by the end of the spring semester. However, when I called the admission counselor who answered, he said 30 credits by the time that you apply. :X

@PikachuTrojan thats my issue too, because i talked to different counselors and they tell me different things. what exactly is true?

I think its if you do not have 30 units by the time you apply, your high school record will come into play…

so how would it work if its on a quarter system since 30 semester units = 45 quarter units, so they except us do 45 units by feb 1st 2011?

Well, if most people normally take 45 quarter units in a year, then I would assume that’s the cutoff number for your high school grades to get looked at

^^ CrownOftheSea is correct.

@crownofthesea ok thanks

hey guys! I followed some of the last parts of USC Transfer 2010 thread and it inspired me to finally create an account and join CC.

I am currently attending a community college in Orange County and my top two schools are USC and UM.

I am going to be applying to USC as a junior for Fall 2011 and my major is communications. I’m pretty pumped about the possibility of becoming a Trojan!

Also, the part I application is just your name/basic info/etc, and the part II application (which is due later, I believe Feb or March) is the essay/ec’s/etc ??

Just wanted to make sure my eyes are not deceiving me, looking at the part I app :)

edit: I just visited my friend at USC the other weekend. AWESOME school. Amazing school spirit, very alive, the people were all very nice (my friend is in Kappa Sigma), amazing campus. I was very surprised. It was very different than UC Berkeley hah ;)

Amped on the possibility of becoming a Trojan as well !

Hey guys im currently attending a cc in bay area. I just graduated out of hs with 2.8 gpa and 24 on the ACT. However I will have 25 quarter credits by end of fall with a 3.87 gpa and I was wondering should I apply and do i have a chance to get into USC. My major is economics!
any advice will be appreciated!

Transfer Applicant here. I also tried to transfer in last year as a sophomore and got a SGR (Spring Grade Request) and was rejected. I had a 4.0 when I applied, and a 3.82 after Spring.

Major: Biology
General Eds complete: Most
Prereqs: ALL by Spring, university requirements done by this Fall
GPA: 3.88 at time of admission (only 1 transferable B since I entered college, 1 was from HS when I didnt care), 3.9 by Spring
TAP certified (I know this doesn’t mean anything for USC, but it means I completed the honors program at my CCC, don’t know if that helps)
ECS: Phi thetta Kappa, (I may be in some sort of leadership position, as my best friend is the president and will help me out :p), Honors Club, Secretary of a Biology Club, Pessa Club (Pre-medical, Health alliance or something haha), volunteer at VA Hospital, 200+ hrs by time of application, won a Gold Medal in San Fernando Youth Olympics in 100M Dash 2 years ago
