So sorry for those with disappointing news, happy for those who got big packets, and sending soothing vibes to those still waiting for the mail. This is a very difficult time!

@xzy, the admissions blog said 75% were above top 95 percentile in test scores. That doesn’t conflict with saying most admits were in the top 97th, since most just means over 50% of admits are above that 97th percentile.

@SoCalGalNguyan, as you likely know well, most of the highly selective colleges are holistic BUT they can select from a huge group so their scores/gpas average is still very high. If you read the decisions thread from previous years, there are admits with surprisingly low (compared to this average) scores, too. But, of course, they are rare, have some amazing ECs, honors, or perhaps private hardship stories that we can’t always know on a public forum. It’s just super competitive at the level of the top 30 universities and each will make a slightly different call among all of you gifted students.

I’m hoping for more good results here on cc, but nothing is predictable and that’s not easy to live with.

Go out and get active (sports? workout?), or call a friend and unload all your worries, or have some chocolate?

I had no change on my admission change until a couple hours ago. Now it says:

"You can track the status of your application here. Check back periodically to see any new information that is requested. Please be aware that all final admission decisions are sent via postal mail.

The committee has acted on your application, and we have mailed notice of the decision. If for some reason you do not receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results of this online through USConnect March 29th at noon Pacific Time."

I’m pretty sure this doesn’t mean anything, and everyone’s status should change to this eventually I guess.

@madbean, I may have been reading too much into it. Anyway, thanks for the input! It’s just that “most” has the connotation of a greater number closer to 100%, but technically, you and USC are right!

Your major must have been very competitive.

Unbelievably University of Washington, Seattle, that has an excellent computer science major, only accepted 35 freshman students out of a huge applicant pool in the thousands!

Freshman that get accepted ‘undeclared’ or ‘not into their major’ at any highly regarded school may never get in to their hopeful major. You can write to the department advisor or general admissions to get the stats of how many applied to the major and how many were accepted.

All universities should be accountable with common data sets (USC does not do this) and how many students get accepted into what major, because that makes rejections easier to deal with and acceptances all the more satisfying.

Most likely, xzyabc44, my son will get his rejection letter soon from USC too, and he is off the charts brilliant, best senior award, tons of community service, varsity …His room is dripping with awards (internationally and in state) and we joked about how this NOT moving into any dorm room

@ filmwalker: Ah, I’ll look into them, thanks! ALSO (how could I forget) congratulations on making it in as well! Are you going for sure, or still waiting?

got into USC for Physics!! And guys don’t worry if you didn’t receive anything today… my twin sister is ten times smarter than me and she didn’t get anything. It’s pretty random.

So our excitement over accepted is short-lived. When my daughter got home and opened the packet, it said she got into USC, but not into her intended major, digital arts. So she is expected to choose another major. It doesn’t say anything about being waitlisted, so I am assuming she has no chance of getting in. Meanwhile, we sent her the photo of the packet and she was so excited and now she is devastated. I feel terrible. I guess she is going to Chapman where she got in for digital arts with a 25,000 scholarship. It’s a good school, but it isn’t USC.

S2 ACCEPTED- Large 8 x 10 Yellow envelope
Regular mail arrived today - So California (not special delivery)
GPA 4.3 W 3.8-9 UW ?
31 ACT
Lots of APs
Nationally ranked HS
Top 10% of class
Outstanding ECs and recs
Absolutely floored to be accepted - S1 was not with similar stats a few years back

Portal reads the same as @Wassupman99’s. Congrats to all and to those waiting, they were literally all mailed at the same time. It’s USPS, not any indication of a yes or no.

@Smother USC does not have waiting lists. However, I am in digital arts/media in LA, and I have to tell you, a degree in this field does less for an applicant in my large company than his/her internships. I want to see real-world experience, not all classroom learning. If this is her dream, why not let her get general education and electives requirements out of the way at USC, then she can reapply to Digital Arts? The first two years are mostly general ed anyhow. All is not lost, unless this is a financial decision. If it is, then she can always transfer in later. However, Chapman has an EXCELLENT program, too (we have more interns from there than USC actually). Either way, she can’t go wrong, but please tell her to pursue internships in the field. It won’t matter what her degree says then.

@smother I would consider taking the 25K at Chapman and give her some or all of that savings for the down payment on a house one day. That’s what we offered our son. Go to a school with a scholarship and we will put that $ away for you. If we have to pay a big full tuition, then he better start saving…

I KNEW you’d be on here, @Alamemom. HAHA. I almost thought of stalking you on another forum to say you were right about at least one kid. Phew, now we can go to football games again. My husband has been boycotting since S1 was rejected!

@Osserpusser - First off, congrats on your son’s acceptance!! second, I have a quick question: If he is a spring admit, what does this mean? Does he not go to college for the first semester?

Has anyone in the NE received their acceptances from USC? Specifically, Delaware or the tri-state area? And was the package marked priority mail or what?
Thanks…

@midtriplet Yes, you start in spring. USC does not have a waiting list. You are actually admitted, but start in January. It’s like a tiered admissions system. You attend community college or work in the fall, but there are benefits I need to read up on (you can attend campus events, football games, etc.) I know several USC spring admits who have been moved up to fall as space permits. Other colleges with spring admission policies are American University, Brandeis University, Colby College, Middlebury College, Northeastern University, Pepperdine University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego and University of Maryland. For my son? Probably a deal breaker because he has other comparable schools with fall admit. But for the right kid? A great option to get into the school of their dreams when they would have been waitlisted in the past. @Alememom will hate me for this, but rumor has it schools use it to report the better test scores for the freshman class, which is done in fall. If you start in spring, your test scores don’t factor in.
