Has anyone received any emails (non-admissions) from USC today?

I haven’t, but perhaps we’ll get one to check our portals when they start releasing tomorrow. that’s my guess.

Assuming admission in either round, if your FAST profile is not complete, it will delay you receiving the eventual FA offering. While merit consideration is independent from the FA offering, the FAO will include any such merit money that they are aware of in their calculations, adjusting your perceived need. So, it would be factored in as available money to your family. It is thus not two independent processes that could stack to your advantage. There are many applicants who do not gain merit consideration who end up with university grants greater than what the merit scholarship might have been. It simply comes down to how they evaluate your family’s ability to contribute toward the total cost of your education.

Yes. You will still be considered for merit aid even if your FA file is incomplete.

yay!! thanks for letting me know.

You’re welcome.

oh okay- cool! i didn’t read this at first but that’s good to know. the only issue I have is with the fact that I don’t have a 2nd ID to give for my citizenship verification and I’ll have it by next week and I know that decisions are being released tomorrow (and again in March if/when I get deferred) so I just wanted to make sure merit (and need-based too) were things I was still able to get, even with the delay.

You’re good on that front. Good luck…

thanks! fingers crossed.

Where do they share decisions on the portal - does it say it right at the top or do you have to click a link somewhere once you are logged into your portal? Or is it simply included in an email? Thanks for clarifying!

As I recall, you will notice the difference once you log-in. It will show you that a decision has been made, urging you to click on a link to see the letter. And then the letter will either be congratulatory, documenting an offer of admission, or it will let you know that your decision has been deferred to the RD round… i.e. - March. They will email once the portal is updated, letting you know that the decision waits there. So, you do not have to refresh it all day. But many do so, causing the site to freeze up on occasion. I doubt that the email itself will indicate the decision. At least it did not in the past. That is my memory of it from 2014 and 2017. But they could always change the methodology. Others may chime in if I am remembering it incorrectly or if things have changed over time. Good luck.

Hilarious!!! :joy: We quote that movie all the time at my house!

S23’s applied major is also so perfect for him. We are preparing for a deferral, but cannot help but be hopeful. Oh how he wishes USC would have offered ED instead of EA…

Same, really wish they had an ED option! Good luck to your son tomorrow. Maybe they will see the fit that we see. For us, USC is not a convenient choice - its across the country and we wont get a dime of aid. My son has acceptances to several great schools closer to home that cost a hell of a lot less - So for me to still think USC is the right fit, there must be something to it. Best of luck

My daughter received one from Office of the Dean regarding a Business Lecture Series-unrelated to admissions.

Same, same and same. Absolutely! Best of luck to your son as well!

Happy mom ain’t so happy! Everyone forms these views based on what’s best for them or their kid. Your perspectives change over time when you are the alumnus. Like how would you like to have graduated from UCLA and then your kid applies to the school and they punish them in favor of a first generation kid? So you being an alumnus is worse than if you didn’t go to college. At least USC cares a little still. Trojan family.

And yes, @WWWard correct, you click link to letter with the update of in or deferred. Was hoping merit too, but it sounds like that will come in a week or two.
