Hmmm… they took my D’s down too. It no longer says Undergraduate and Major: Theatre.

Same here. My daughter’s said Undergraduate and Major: Theatre yesterday. Now, it doesn’t.

@mamarose and @WWWard did your D’s apply to the BA? my son’s said they same thing but we’re super confused as he only applied to the BFA

It said it this morning. So they only took it down in the last few hours. Maybe a CCer called to ask why theirs did not say such… or maybe they heard about our inquiries. Either way… they have stopped including that in the FinAid portal. Oh well… we will all know what it truly means in a few days…

My D applied BA - Theatre… and that is what it had said.

My daughter applied with BFA as 1st choice and BA as 2nd choice.

D applied BFA 1 and BA 2 choice, and it said Theatre with parentheses (Acting).

If they just would have made the Open House a week or two later and then sent the RSVP Invitation with the Acceptance, we all could be stressing over something else… lol :)

Stressing indeed. Earlier in the thread, some folks said they had not received invites. Have they since then? Has everyone in this thread received one for their s/d?

Not me,

Hi Jsh1952 found the following thread posted in CC March 2013 on this same topic:
My daughter just graduated from the BFA and she did receive one - my son a junior BFA did not receive one. I would take it as a good sign and wait for the post next week. My understanding is the decisions are being mailed on the 26th. Good luck everyone! :)

Thanks!

My S received his open house invitation today, we live in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Does this mean he has been accepted in the BFA program or the BFA or BA program? We hope to get the acceptance letter this week and are considering going to the open house. Attendance can’t be a requirement to be admitted, correct? That would be ridiculous, especially for those students who do not have the financial resources to attend.

Sfnmjrm - no one is actually one hundred percent positive as to what the letter actually entails. In the past those who have received it have also been admitted and we have yet to hear of a case where a person got the letter but didn’t get into SDA and it’s still unclear as to whether your S is being admitted into the BFA or BA. A friend and I received this letter on Saturday. I live in the SF Bay Area. I just don’t want anyone to get their hopes up about what this letter truly means because rejection would just be even more heartbreaking.

Thanks RaeGregs, your caution is duly noted. We decide to purchase airline tickets with Southwest which can always be cancelled and the funds used for another trip.

My son is at USC SDA and the postcard has always meant admission–so while I would be cautious too, it’s always been so in the past. The question is whether it’s BA or BFA. Both are invited to the Open House. Also, in the past, several admitted students never received the invitation at all–whether a US postal glitch or whatever. And the reason they hold it so early in April is to have the students and their families attend a performance of the big musical. So guarded congratulations to all who have received card so far. My son loves USC!

My D has not gotten any real positive results thus far… so despite the Invitation and the FA portal glitch that showed her as BA- Theatre, until they took it down… she is taking the “I will believe it only when I see it” approach. But since she has been talking about USC SDA since she was 7… I do hope that the anecdotal evidence from years past holds true…

Could anyone tell me about the merit/talent scholarships awarded to incoming freshman at SDA? How many and how much? Thank you!

Most merit awards at USC are given for academic merit. The largest awards are substantial, but required being invited to attend an interview on campus at the end of Feb. Those candidates (Trustee, Presidential, and Dean Scholars) were awarded full-tuition, half-tuition, and quarter-tuition scholarships. In addition, all NMF who are admitted automatically receive half-tuition scholarships + $1000/year. All of these are 4 year awards. In terms of talent-based awards from SDA, they are much more modest and are few. USC does provide significant financial aid in the form of grants to qualifying families. Keep in mind, USC FA uses CSS Profile as well as FAFSA so, like most private universities, their determination of “need” may not quite match up with what one might dream of. OTOH, for families with low incomes/low assets, the FA grants can be extremely generous. There are also merit scholarships awarded to continuing students in SDA, but I think these, as well, are more modest. Here’s a listing (but note, they do not list exact $$) <a href=“Tuition, Financial Aid & Awards · School of Dramatic Arts · USC”>http://dramaticarts.usc.edu/undergraduate-programs/tuition,-financial-aid-scholarships.aspx It’s always best to wait for the final offers to come in. The smaller merit awards often arrive in separate envelopes after admissions letters are received. Sometimes into mid-April.

Can anyone confirm that the SDA acceptance-no acceptance letters are being mailed, versus should be received by mail, today. March 26? Thanks.
