USC Fall 08 transfers

Question: Where can I find the pre-req for anthropology major?
I was reseraching it never found it!!!! Help!

torrance try calling the school and asking

jesus my gpa situation is fluctuating like crazy this fall semester. anyone know if a 3.4 is too low for Letters and Sciences?

bumbum- do you know the number?

I just talked to one of the rep... He said you just gotta take 2 english comp classes and 1 math class that's it.... interesting...
But W's for USC is a critical problem... which I hav total of 8...

bumbum - r u applying as junior or sophomore?

why do you say W'S are a big problem for USC? Can you back that up please...

oh~ I asked the rep and she said W is going to hurt my chance...
I am applying to 4 UC's... but I might not apply because I hav 8 W's..

She said it is "critical" problem im like ok~

<------ junior transfer (all prereqs and GEs are done)

torrance with your gpa i think you have an ok chance at USC even with your Ws. my advice would be to just apply, its worth the effort.

Yah! deadline is feb.1 so I still got time to think about it! most likely ill do it during winter break!

can somebody explain to me the writing courses requirement? So you absolutely HAVE to take a writing course before you transfer, even if I transfer as a sophomore? Does AP Eng Lit count for anything?

yeah, pretty much. thats one of two requirements that are necessary to transfer

you need to complete English 1B or 1C, which requires 1A

and I think you need intermediate algebra, but that can be done in high school

so, by the end of your spring semester, you should have that english course finished

So 1A is the class that needs to be taken before I transfer? If so, is it absolutely mandatory? I got a 4 on the AP Lit test, does that count towards anything? Oh, and so how do I know what counts as 1A writing at my school? cause I go to a OOS university thats not listed on the articulation site

i'm sure ap counts as some type of elective credit, not sure if it waives the writing requirement.

oh right, those were the CCC names for the courses

I'm pretty sure the AP probably will grant you some credits, but it won't waiver the English requirements

You pretty much have to take the lower division writing course (usually, before you take the equivalent of the WRIT 130, there is a prerequisite English course, you should probably check the articulations agreement on the USC website, if listed for your school. The WRIT 130 course is generally a second-semester writing course at CCs), before attending USC.

But in the case there is not the equivalent course..

"Not all schools offer a course that is equivalent to WRIT 130; in that case, applicants should take the strongest composition course available" is what the transfer brochure says

Why wouldn't you take these English courses anyway? They are such an essential part of your GE, and in case USC doesn't work out, they usually work to fulfill transfer requirements to other schools. Nothing to lose!

EDIT: in case there is any confusion, 1A is the prerequisite course (CCC) for 1B or 1C, and 1B and 1C are the courses that are the equivalent to the WRIT 130.
Also, keep in mind you can complete these courses in your Winter/Spring semesters if you haven't taken them already!

USC Undergraduate Admission: Admission: Transfer Admission Process: Transfer Credit and Policy

check that link out to see which APs will satisfy the GE requirements

after looking at it, although it'll give you credit, it won't fulfill any category for the GE requirements

Kind of random: I asked a professor of mine & a counselor to write me a letter of recommendation. Any suggestions on what to send as a thank-you? Will a nice card suffice? Or any other suggestions...?

A thank you card is usually good enough because some students don't even send those thank you notes. Chocolate always works though

lol. Even if they're both guys? Thanks.

p.s. I'm dropping by to give them the thank you cards and also as a way to kinda remind them that they have to give me the recommendations or get started on them, lol. Less awkward than actually asking and pressuring them I think.
