USC Fall 08 transfers

any anthro majors out there? or social science?

lol @ you two. Annenberg, BA in Communications. How's that? How about you, Woman of Troy?

I'm mostly interested in the interpersonal aspects of comm, as opposed to the journalism/other stuff.

Torrance, my second choice major is for sociology, and it's my first choice for Berkeley. I plan to double in both, so I applied for the more difficult one for USC after consulting an adcom (much easier to go to the soc department and add that on as a major instead of the other way around), and the non-impacted one at Cal, which was soc.

Geez, I get so nervous whenever I get a letter from USC. I got one today asking to confirm some info. and I know it's too soon for decisions but I still feel weird whenever I find a thin envelope has arrived. :P Anyone else get one?

mapletree- lol, I obviously misunderstood. Same here, I picked Communications as 1st choice, English 2nd choice. I like the Entertainment concentration since I would like to work in T.V. :)

Woman.Of.Troy - yup, I got that same "fax back if incorrect" address verification thing when I got my new barcodes. I was a bit alarmed at first too. Thinking, "Wow, my application was THAT bad, they just sent a rejection right off the bat"
;)

2nd time applying
freshman applying for class of 2011
major: undecided College of Letters and Arts
GPA: 3.643
30 units completed by end of this semester
Applying from Skidmore College in upstate NY (LAC)

@Woman.Of.Troy: hahah i had no clue about the annenberg's dept.'s. good to know though. and no competition here! i'm only considering thornton school of music. and i'm doubtful as it is, on my chance of acceptance. :(

i dropped off my transcripts and coversheet about 2 weeks ago
i heard it takes 3 weeks processing time
and now oasis says that they haven't received them yet
but i have the receipt form in black and white from the admissions office that i dropped them off
incase they have a human error and lose it
can i pwn them with the receipt form? ^^

Question:I have 9w's and do I even have a chance for USC?

just apologize or every W u have.
just kidding i have no clue.
if u have a good reason in ur personal statement
or the extra comments box or w/e
u should have a good shot as long as u can convince them its not gonna happen while ur there.

guardianangel-same here. keep that receipt!

i didn't put the reason on my personal statement for W's... what should I do?

9 W's is a big problem and bigger because u didn't provide a reason.

You must send them an e-mail asking them to add the info. to your application.

I forgot to list some ec's and asked them to add it ... like on Feb. 5th ... and they added the info. yesterday.

So just send them an e-mail as soon as possible.

or you can fax them a letter. I had a problem wit my short answers. My first draft was in the text box and the I edited it. I pressed save and sent my application but it never saved. So, I called up admissions and they told me to just fax them a letter explaining the situation and then to send my intended response. You shouldn't have a problem getting it into your file.

From https://afa.usc.edu

"We have completed a preliminary review of your application. We sometimes request additional information (senior-year grades, for example), so be sure to watch the mail. You may submit senior year grades at www.usc.edu/MDYResponse, even if we did not specifically request them. We are continuing to review applications and expect to mail notification of a decision by April 1st."

April 1st!! That's waaaaaay earlier than I expected. Now I'm freaking out again.

breathes

Women of Troy, I only hope that our GPAs are not typical of people applying to Annenberg! Seriously, can you imagine if everyone had 3.9's? That's crazy competition. (Interesting that comm is often regarded as an "easy" major yet the programs at some schools require much higher GPAs than some other majors..) Also, what class did you take to fulfill the USC math requirement?

Wait, do they think I'm a freshman?!

same thing happened to me they think im a freshman
. i called and they said it no problem

Oh, okay. Thanks crazykumar.

mapletree fix that!! At first I was going to reply that you're totally in, omg omg, but the freshman mishap thing is possible too. I keep getting all these follow up emails regarding info and today a financial thing from the Financial Aid office but I should stop jumping at every little thing.

I know I'm hoping the same. I've recently heard about that too, and it kind of annoys me because I've heard that Annenberg is one of the more difficult schools to transfer into but once you're in, it's all good. I haven't seen many other Annenberg applicants speak up on here, so I really doubt it, it's not really typical to have a high GPA, I suposse CC is the exception since we're all mostly students who really care and don't mind going beyond expectations to be accepted. [Crosses fingers] I hope we both get in though... that'd be awesome!

:)

p.s. well the minimum math requirement is intermediate algebra right?

I'm taking Statistics right now, by the way, since it's "recommended" but it's also a pre-req for my backup school, so I have to. :P

At least you're hearing from them at all. That means they're looking at your app and trying to get it all together!

I hope we both get it too, that would be soo sweet :)

Yep, intermediate algebra is the minimum. I have no idea what level of math I reached in high school, because it was overseas and they have a different system there, but I passed my college's placement test, which apparently places me at intermediate algebra.

I look Statistics 2 semesters ago, as it fulfills the UC math requirement and Annenberg's "recommended" thing as you said, but I was still worried that it will not satisfy USC's general math requirement. I called a few people at USC about a year ago to check before I took the stats class, and many of them seemed hesitant to tell me it would be okay. They said stats is not really a "math" and that I should take something like Calc or Pre-calc. Then one of them finally looked up my school, said it has transfered before, and gave me the okay. I put it in my additional comments box, just in case.

Evidently, you're not the only paranoid one.. :P
