USC Scholarship results notification date?

Don’t abandon us now SimpleLife. All of this torture is way too much fun and misery loves company!

Ok, I just checked my status and I have the same message that everyone else claims to be receiving. I think we definitely shouldn’t read too much into the message…I mean seriously, most of us have stats that are above the 75th percentile and/or outstanding ECs so unless if USC suddenly became the new Stanford, I do not understand why we wouldn’t be considered for scholarship.

^Funny, Matrix! :)

Yeah … agreed, GoldOwl.

rats … I’m STILL here … addicted …

Exactly. So we should all start breathing again.

You are all waiting for news. All I can tell you is last year the first notification of admission we read about here was received by a student in the Los Angeles area on January 27th. That would be less than a week away. I expect the first students to hear will be those in the zip codes nearest SC.

SAT scores of entering students have been rising each year. At Viterbi the freshmen SATs rose 18 points from the previous class. Also, I have heard representatives from two schools at SC. Both indicated more applications had been received this year for those particular schools. I do not know if this is true for the entire university. We have no official admissions data at this time.

Be sure to note if mid year grades are requested or if a document is missing when you check those computer updates.

…just a few more days until some of you receive the thick packet!

Awesome news Georgia Girl! If I’m admitted, first thing I’m doing is ordering a USC hoodie, and a USC jersey. I’ve already picked out the ones I want to get.

I agree that we shouldn’t read too much into these statuses. I’ve done some surfing and it seems to be fairly random in that some people get updated and some don’t. The one that we should be looking for is “The committee has made a decision” or some variant.

Good luck everyone…and take a deep breath.

^ “The committe has acted on your application and mailed notice of their decision…” has traditionally been the sought-after status, but it looks like USC might have changed things up a bit this year. I am glad to see you all have re-gained hope :)

You are all wonderfully qualified applicants and USC would be lucky to have you - remember that even if you are not invited for the Trustee and Presidential there are still - literally - hundreds of smaller scholarships that will be awarded later in the process.

Hang in there!!!

I checked just now and I have the same “received” message.

It may be just that after our preliminary review, our application was forwarded to the admissions committee for another review?

Yeah, I think it’s a fairly generic message but at least we can temporarily stop freaking out about this status update situation.

I have to say…if this whole status message part of USC’s admissions has been such a roller coaster ride, I can’t imagine what the actual decision release day is going to be like =) Can’t wait.

BigKev has the right idea. If I get in (and figure out a way to afford it financially), I’m buying a USC hoodie and jersey too.

I’m getting a hoodie, shirt, and hat to wear to school on an out-of-uniform day if I get accepted. I’m gonna try to just not check the status page for the next 2 weeks and hope for some snail mail gold.

One of you asked for the admitted statistics from last year. Here they are:

Applicants: 35, 794 Targeted class: 2600+ Enrolled: 2972

These are numbers for students who were admitted:

Critical Reading
640-740

Mathematics
680-770

Writing
660-760

Keep in mind SC also had thousands of transfer applicants.

Transfer Applicants: 9,590 Enrolled: 1,360

Average college GPA 3.7

This is just a guess, but I am expecting over 36,000 freshman applicants this year and another rise in the SAT and ACT scores.

i have the same message. soo glad i’m not alone, i was starting to freak out!

So does anyone know if the SCA takes into account someones portfolio in their scholarship consideration?

i seriously did not breathe the entire time i was reading this thread…my status says the same as everyone elses. it was probably not 20 minutes ago that mine was at the preliminary message.

my question is why do they say that they require no additional information but they go on to tell you to submit your mid-year reports? is that them requesting them?

If I understand correctly, that is for the whole of USC, right? Not just scholarship admits? Do you know where we could find stats for the candidates who applied by December 1? Do you think the majority of the 30k+ students who applied applied by the first earlier scholarship deadline? Are there even stats broken up by scholarship? I am curious, but finding admissions statistics (other than the overall admit rate) is sometimes hard.

Thanks GeorgiaGirl!!

Hey all,

Just wanted to say that mine switched from the “Forwarded to Committee for Review” status to the new one everyone has! Looks like we are all back to being on the same page, fair and square!

Good luck to everyone! You are all deserving of the scholarships if you are this concerned over USC! Let’s all hope for the best. :)

Ditto to you sindarlord. Good luck to all. Please do post anything that changes, or any questions so we can stay up to speed on any new developments. It really is getting very exciting!

SC does have a complete admissions profile on their website. It is in the undergraduate admissions section. Also available for some schools is an admissions profile. Each school determines if they wish to make this public.

The numbers I posted are for the freshmen undergraduate applicants. Do keep in mind SC has top notch art schools where talent, imagination, accomplishments and creativity carry more weight than test scores.

As I recall there were about 20,000 seniors who applied before the Dec. 1 merit scholarship deadline. I have never heard of any statistics for these particular applicants. Just guessing I would expect the pool to have scores well above those I posted. A volunteer estimated there were roughly 800 invited to interview for the two top scholarships. Do not become discouraged. There are hundreds of other smaller scholarships given by alumni, Town & Gown, ethnic groups, religious groups, alumni clubs, USC Associates and Panhellenic.

Be proactive and apply for scholarships in your local area. A Georgia student I interviewed had four local scholarships before enrolling. These can be from civic, church, foundations, corporate, temple or private individuals.

Here are the numbers for the larger scholarships in 2010. (Entering freshmen)

Trustee- 146
Presidential- 399
Dean’s- 121

Add to that hundreds of other scholarships mentioned above.
